It would be great if we had the same weather as last year.... it seemed to be perfect

TO TRUE!! I second that! Last year was PERFECT, not to hot, not to chilly, just right!

Not like '05, I missed thursday's pick up then, so I was in line friday morning and it POURED the rain down, I was wearing my Sanzo costume (from Saiyuki) and I was totally drenched to my shorts, THOSE and my underwear were the only things that stayed dry on me. I'm surprised I didn't catch a cold that weekend or just after it, cos I'm soaked through, and naturally (and I understand why) the BCC always has the air conditioning on SUB-ARTIC I was shivering w/n 10 minutes of entering the building.

So it would be nice if the weather will be like it was last year, although knowing my luck, it'll be HOT AND HUMID ><.

I hope that prediction is accurate. Nice and sunny, and relatively mild for heat (2006 was ~ 100 F). Good swimming pool whether, too! If I recall correctly, the Sheraton City Center's pool is outside (on the roof?) so maybe I'll skip the usual huge Thursday line, take a dip, and go pick up my badge after the madness is over (although I do like madness).

that's actually considered cool since otakon/baltimore usually has fires-of-hell type weather. hope those numbers stay that way.

maybe it's just me but the BCC didnt seem to have sub-arctic AC last year like they ususally do. it could have been becaue most of the escalators were broken and i had to do a lot more walking [in cosplay]. i'm kinda hoping the AC is blasting because I have a rather hot cosplay this year

Bah, more escalators and less A/C. Though those temps are the highs, and only really help decide if you want to eat lunch outside or not. What would be more important are the 8am and 2am temps.

Actually, I think it had to do with the amount of people in the con center... x.x You really couldn't feel any cool air until you went to the top floor where there was barely any people.

Honestly, i have no qualms about pouring rain; i've run around in downpours & storms before & think it's really actually fun. ^ ^

Though, for the sake of those with cosplays that could potentially be ruined by too much water, hopefully it won't come to that. Besides, things generally tend to break up before reaching Baltimore, especially if the system's coming over the mountains.

I'd like to take the time to point out that AccuWeather isn't always the most accurate. Nor is Weather.com for that matter, but TWC tends to be better than AccuWeather. Also, despite the fact that they both offer nearly-two-weeks-in-advance forecasts, those aren't accurate out beyond five or six days. The best bet is to check Weather.gov, which is directly connected with NOAA and the NWS , every so often for updates. Just punch in the zip code into the search box on the left and click "GO".

As a local amateur forecaster, I'm going to say (and mind you this'll probably change) the following as my personal forecast:

Thursday: high 92, calm winds, humid, chance of storms early afternoon but clearing later
Friday: high 90, slight wind, partly to mostly cloudy
Saturday: high 89, slight wind, mostly cloudy with a chance of storms in the evening
Sunday: high 90, calm winds, humid, partly cloudy

Don't wait for hours and hours outside on Thursday, and don't line up early on Friday. Ta da, your risk of heatstroke is reduced to slightly greater than zero!

Keep in mind as you're reading the high temperatures for the day that they don't incorporate the heat index, which means what the weather actually feels like. Baltimore in August may as well be a swamp or a rainforest for the humidity in the air - while the actual air temperature on Thursday may only be 92, it's likely to feel more like 97 or - if it's particularly bad - 102.

Wunderground seems to indicate that there is only a 20% chance of rain on Friday- 84°F and ~62-84% humidity. Probably won't rain during the weekend, but will likely be super humid and hot, as per usual. What's Otakon without sweaty Otaku? May I recommend Secret's Clinical Strength deodorant? Works wonders. Hate to be that eventual person in a full-on Genma panda suit standing in the pre-reg line on Friday...

Yeah, which is why they seem to be taking the non-comittal way out for now. My Weather.com -> English dictionary says "30% chance of precipitation" means that the air will be charged and unstable, presenting a chance of rain (but we don't know where, when, how much, how long, or how pronounced the DC-split will be.)

Actually, the "X% chance of precipitation" means that it can still rain, just not drop enough water to register on instruments. Usually, precipitation is given as more than (if I remember correctly,) 0.01 inches. So the percentage really just means the chance of a significant rainfall.
As far as the DC-split goes, it tends to follow I-95, so if it does rain, Otakon'll probably get the thunder part of it, while the west suburbs of DC just get drenched.
I'll probably check a weather map once I get home this evening and post up an updated version of my own forecast for the weekend. (And, just in case people are wondering, I usually have anywhere from a 60%-90% win streak as far as the weather is concerned)

I know, but their forecasts tend to average 10%=chaos theory dictates anything could happen, 20%=possibility a water molecule might hit the ground before evaporating from simple air friction, 30%=chance of scattered sprinkles, 40%+ start taking notes kids, 70%+ flash floods possible, 90% current conditions indicate rain.

And to add another guess (though they don't say from where) as part of the Radisson's email confirmation:

Just as I expected, not 3 days later there isn't a chance of rain in sight as far as the forecast is concerned! So, expect the usual Otakon forecast with less heat than we're used to. Not to say it won't feel hot & sticky, but just think, it could be worse. Also, I don't know about you, but I'm still packing my umbrella just in case. I learned a long time ago to take whatever the weatherman says with a grain of salt, never believe them 100%.

It's scattered showers/T-storms - means that one side of the street might get a howling, fantastically violent storm and the other side might get nothing. Think of Florida's weather - hot, humid, afternoon storms here and there but mostly sunny.

All I can say is, Rain would be lovely for the pre-reg line, gives a chance to cool down *and hey, I can show off my amazing Ultra Man umbrella !*

Anyways, the only weather worry I have is getting my hair ruined from the hotel to the convention center, lolita's must have good hair for photo-ops !

Percent chance of precipitation is a funny thing. As of 4:30pm Wednesday, Weather Underground (a site I trust) is saying a 30% chance of rain for the day on Thursday and a 20% chance of rain for the day on Friday. A day is a big long time to get even a bit of rain. What the percents really mean is that on 10 days that have the exact same forecasting conditions a 20% chance of rain means that it would rain on 2 out of 10 and a 30% chance means 3 out of those 10 days it would rain. So if you know anything about gambling you will most likely have no rain with those percents, but you could have a monsoon as well.
Both days the hourly breakdown shows the higher percentages of possible rain are in the afternoon. Thunderstorms and other rain storms love to crop up in the late afternoon. They can be so localized that your hotel might get rain and the convention center might not.

Given the conditions I doubt we will get a sustained period of precipitation. Just the occasional shower if any at all.
Take an umbrella and pull it out if the forecast changes before you go out to the center.

Temperatures are spectacular for Baltimore in August.

It was so good it didnt rain. It was so nice to be there. After being used to the weather I came back to Pa and ifelt so cold.
I didnt bring a sweatshirt. The temperture was nice especially with my cosplay. I enjoyed it.

The weather was definitely very cooperative, especially seeing how we've had a fairly harsh heatwave going on. This should be the hottest part of the year, but it's more like late spring.
