This is the forecast the National Weather Service has for next weekend right now:
Thursday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 89.
Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.
heheh...looks like I'm correct, then.
lol the sad thing with Maryland weather is that any forecast can go down the tubes within hours.
Yeah, which is why they seem to be taking the non-comittal way out for now. My Weather.com -> English dictionary says "30% chance of precipitation" means that the air will be charged and unstable, presenting a chance of rain (but we don't know where, when, how much, how long, or how pronounced the DC-split will be.)
Actually, the "X% chance of precipitation" means that it can still rain, just not drop enough water to register on instruments. Usually, precipitation is given as more than (if I remember correctly,) 0.01 inches. So the percentage really just means the chance of a
significant rainfall.
As far as the DC-split goes, it tends to follow I-95, so if it does rain, Otakon'll probably get the thunder part of it, while the west suburbs of DC just get drenched.
I'll probably check a weather map once I get home this evening and post up an updated version of my own forecast for the weekend. (And, just in case people are wondering, I usually have anywhere from a 60%-90% win streak as far as the weather is concerned)
