2. When the schedule comes out, you'll be able to see and plan around things with big lines, like popular premieres, major guests, etc.

Downstairs in the Hilton lobby might be a good location, as it's out of the way of lines and crowds, with big open spaces, without being secluded. Likewise over in the Pratt Street lobby, past Registration (sort of near the Skywalk to the Hilton, if you were going from Registration towards Autographs and Workshops), there's a large space that typically has few crowds.
Another possible location is on the 400 level, if you plan for a time when big premieres' lines won't be there. There are some lovely outdoor spots, too.

We generally only ask that you not block traffic or disturb panels/screenings that are occurring, whether you're planning a game of freeze tag or an impromptu dance-off or a marriage proposal. So long as your plans fit within our policies, you're pretty okay by us. We appreciate you asking ahead of time.

That area is just as you describe it, but it seems that it is getting more popular as a location for photograhy and "just sittin' around" (just so you know).... over in the Pratt Street lobby, past Registration (sort of near the Skywalk to the Hilton, if you were going from Registration towards Autographs and Workshops), there's a large space that typically has few crowds.
