How many volumes of a manga do you think you have to read in order to get a sense of if the manga is good or not?

I would say 3-5.

Depening on the manga itself i'd say 1-3. There have been times that i was hoooked on the first Volume.

Otakon 2013 Cosplays:
Yuki-Onna (nurarihyon no Mago) 100%, Urahara (female Version) (Bleach) 15%, Yukio (Aoi No Exorcist)- 0%, Natsume W/ Nyako Sensei (Natsume Yuujinchou)- 10%

Otakon 2012 Cosplays:
Kikyo (Inuyashia) - 100%, Yuki-Onna (nurarihyon no Mago) 100%, Merin (kuroshitsuji - Maid outfit) 100%, Nanao Ise (Bleach)- 100% (still working on her sword for Otakon ?)

Otakon 2011 Cosplays:
Merin (kuroshitsuji - Maid outfit) 100%, Nanao Ise (Bleach)- 100% (still working on her sword for Otakon ?)

Cosplays for later:

Yoshino (Digimon) 0%, Chrome (Katekyo Hitman Reborn)- 2%

For me, just one. If I don't like it by the end of the first one, chances are I'm not going to like it.

Just one - the last volume. Posted Image
Joking aside (although my dad would say otherwise)

I think standard sized ones should be 3....although personally I tend to judge based off of 2

manga really should be able to grab you in one. that's a few hundred pages to make an impression. but if it's one you're on the fence on, i'd say 2-3 to see if it picks up. Also depends how long the manga title is, IMO
Cosplay 2011: Kagetoki (Haruka3), Michiru (zombie loan), Milard/Mirald (Tales of Phantasia)
Cosplay 2012: Sarasa (Basara), Veigue - Carta style (Tales of Magic Carta/Rebirth), Michiru (Zombie Loan)

Usually for me it's the first issue. If it doesn't grab me, then I go on the next volume. One shot titles are always good for me.
