I'm planning to cosplay as Ness from Earthbound, and I want to bring a baseball bat as a prop. Is this allowed as long as it's not metal? I didn't see it listed as prohibited in the rules.

I'm not staff so you'll need to wait for an official answer. The two rules on weapons that I believe apply most to this situation are these:

• Staves, bo sticks, boken, shinai, and wooden swords will be permitted as long as they are handled responsibly and meet all other criteria.
• Prop weapons shall be limited to less than six feet six inches (6'6") in height and less than fifty pounds (50lbs) in weight.

In my unofficial opinion, you should be fine as long as you're within these limits. That is unless wooden bats are put under the category of "paddle" which are not allowed. Unofficial and unhelpful so....+1?

Also not staff, but as was mentioned in another thread by staff at http://board.otakon....71 , you'll want to send off an e-mail to access control.

Hi, everyone, sorry for the delay in response!

Russ, I just answered your question through our online helpdesk, but I wanted to put an answer here for other folks who might be doing baseball bat-type costumes (Ness, The Scout, etc): wooden bats are generally okay, so long as they aren't being used unsafely. We do ask that folks with baseball bats come to see us in Room 333 at the con, so that we can take a look and give you a final yes/no once we've seen the actual object in question (I'm one of a few folk who are authorized to sign off on weapons). Aluminum bats are not okay, and attendees with aluminum bats will be asked to return the prop to their hotel room or car.
