  1. When it was formally announced, and with aught else concurrent to divide attention, I had passively resigned to checking hotel booking for 2021 later this year. Apparently, despite how labelled and marked as critical for updates, all but the most recent letter from Otakorp went to my promotions bin in Gmail. Manys a panel I was keen to after reading schedule for yesterday, as well missing out on the two usual accommodations my small and longevitous dedicated group books since the move from Baltimore to DC - being the Cambrian and Embassy.

(If anyone has booked an extra room at either, please reach out to me, I would be immensely grateful)

Aside trying to accept the bitter layer on top of current affairs, hopefully the online stream was a pleasure for all? Granted many panels to enjoy, though was/were there one or more that especially held resonance and appreciation?

In hopes of not offending anyone, some panels I was particularly enthused for were Zelda and Japanese Religion, Hikikomori, The Ainu, Sakura Wars, AuralAnime, and others scattered throughout the day.

  2. So I run into car problems (thanks Midas for the oil change and the car break on the house) a week shy of Otakon 08 and was forced to pursue alternate forms of transportation. The car rental company would have charged me an extra $160 for the duration of the trip on account of being 22 years old... it's times like that I really appreciate my immature, party-going, ingrate age group's stereotype. So Greyhound it is! We arrive at the terminal an hour early as instructed but are seemingly blocked off by a middle-aged black man asking, and I quote, "Do ya have any scuma? Ya? For me? Please?" I just so happened to have an assortment of $5 bills and, tho I would much rather buy him sustenance, handed him a single bill so we could get it in the door and waved with a "God Bless you sir"

As per the 15 hour bus ride, there was the usual rude passengers and buss drivers with a chip on their shoulders that made it *known* they were the absolute law, as well as the people whom act like they're sleeping come new passengers to try and keep a seat to themselves... that pisses me off the most to be honest. At any rate, at the transfer in Richmond, VA, we stepped out of the terminal for some fresh air and saw what had to have been Scuma Guy (down to the shoes he was wearing and pattern of facial hair) and he came up and asked, and I quote, "Yous got any scuma? C'mon please?"

So, guilt ridden and admittedly I just pulled an about-hace and went back into the terminal and my ensemble was quick to follow. Ok, fast forward 4 days and after a similar but slightly better bus ride home, we were securing a ride from Knoxville back to Maryville when upon our ride arrived... low and behold... it was Scuma Guy again! Luckily we had our things packed in the van and were closing the door and sped away.

So I have some come to admire Scuma Guy for his classic character that, to a point, I've formed in my mind into a more charismatic figure with a northern but hollowed out voice. It goes without saying, I made a Natural Stalker on City of Villain named Scuma Guy...

  3. YOU PEOPLE KICKED ASS AND TOOK NAMES!!!

Outstanding plethora of events. BOTH raves were awesomeness, as well as the choice for OAVs (Ultimate Hellsing rocked, and kudos to FUNimation for the pre-release English dub of episode 4), and the panels were amazing! Tho this is my first time, I don't imagine could get any better on anything I could orchestrate, yet I hear each subsequent year just gets better and better.

I am COMING back next year, and will spread news around my other friends and to their friends of this, or maybe even around town on public bulletins.

*takes his Respirdol and chills out*

Thank you all again, hopefully I'll work up the nerve to say a piece or at feedback, which was handled quite well.

  4. I went this year and did my homework on past otakons, the main course seems to be all day Saturday with an appetizer being up Friday morning thru the afternoon with all the non-prereg people in miles of line outside the building. And what with the raves being Friday and Saturday night as well as all the 18+ material and most demanded OAVs showing Saturday afternoon and evening... 1500 on Sunday seems a good time to have the closing ceremony and con feedback done with and preparing for real life again.

    Just me tho.

Again, kick ass this year. Kudos.

  5. I grabbed 4 nights at the Holiday Inns middle of last year for 189/night and had to take a bus at the last second but got here and loved it. I stayed thru the feedback, heard the dates for next year were July 17th-19th, but DIDN'T immediately make a reservation when I got back to the hotel... I was so depressed it was over I wasn't thinking straight heh heh heh...

But I got the reservations in the same hotel the next day for July 16th-20th but at 269/night for 3 nights and then 189/night for Sunday.

Can the housing system change my rate to that of Otakon or do I have to get lucky with the reservation system? This may have been answered already and I have been reading it up thru now but 3 pages with some lengthy posts I might have missed it somewhere.

BTW... was anyone else as amused as I was at the feedback when the women in D. Grayman cosplay complained about "long lines"?

  6. Don't do it, she'll do more than pictures. She'll take you to random dates that you'll later regret! D:

Haha, joking obviously:P I've been wanting to see Black Cat cosplay (I just got into the anime/manga this past year)..

LoL. Thankx for the advice :]

  7. For the coat, check thrift stores for men's rain/trench coats (think a London Fog style one). You can then use scissors to tatter the end like his has (be sure to stitch the edges, though, so that they don't fray and tatter more). If the coat you find is the wrong color, you can also add dye to it; look for RIT dye (it can be used in a washing machine, yaaay), available at most craft stores - a powder and a liquid form is available; I prefer the liquid. Ask your mom or other washing machine users first, though! ^_^

As for the gun, try to find a cheap airsoft replica of a small handgun. Be extra-certain sure to hotglue or otherwise disable all of the moving parts (yes, even the ones on the inside); then, you can use shaped foam to create the bits that make his gun a signature firearm. Prime the whole thing when you're done, and paint it (foam eats paint like a hungry lion eats zebras, so be sure to have the foam well-primed before you paint it!). Make sure to leave a good-sized orange tip on the end!

  8. Greetings... *waves*

This will be my first con on this scale, so besides being a nub this time around, I also want to be as convincing as possible. I'll be going as Train Heartnet from Black Cat (I imagine I've said that enough on a few threads.... sorry....) but regardless, I'm not aware of the rules for cosplay besides something I heard about metal not being allowed. Does that apply to small diecast metal guns... probably yes... but just verifying?

The point I was hoping I could gather even the slightest of opinions on how to go about doing this. I've everything arranged excepting his trench coat-type outerwear and his gun "Hades". Here's a picture of both.

    "Hades"

    "Black Coat/Cloak?

I'm thinking for the gun I could check a few toy stores, buy a gun, tear it apart and built from the frame, but I'm trying to get a satisfying weight for the gun also. So that's the problem there. But I'm *very* stumped on the coat/cloak. I've looked all over online and at local clothing stores for any kind of trench coat or leather coat type thing that I could sew an out cape from left to right to match the picture above. I'm willing to throw down maybe $200 at best but I still can't find anything that works for his particular cloak/coat.

Any info/suggestions for the gun or coat/cloak would be most appreciated. I'll email you an e-cookie happy :(

  9. In no particular order of days:

    Train Heartnet - Black Cat

Kankuro (with my weightless friend on my back as Crow) - Naruto

    Hoshikagi Kisame - Naruto

    Legato Bluesummers- Trigun

I'm excited about going as Train, I'll have the cat eyes, tho I can't stand contacts

  10. It is a thing of frustration yes, con-goers disputing the upheld rules of common sense/courtesy. Alabaster put it best, "Your right to throw a punch ends when you hit me in the face", a precise synopsis of the over-all theme of freedom within a controlled environment, in my opinion. You can have your cake, and eat it too, but expect retribution if you shove your cake in someone's face.

I don't agree with the homosexual lifestyle, but I'm all for fun and games if someone wants to cosplay and such and have their paddles, but keep it to yourselves... and if it causes such problems that they're banned then leave them in the car... I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun at the con without a paddle. When did this country become all about "me", "I", and "myself"?

Well... that has been part of our motivation as a nation for many innovations... but still, I should like to think the point is made.

In my blind optomism of Shiek being in Brawl I went searching the forums all over various sites and came across this:

Sheik and Ganondorf confirmed for Brawl

Posted on August 2nd, 2007 by Wailord.

    Categories: SSBB, Wii.

In an interview from GameInformer, Eiji Aonuma, who directed Twilight Princess, let go that both Sheik and Ganondorf will be returning for the next iteration in the Smash Bros. series. Zelda had already been confirmed for quite a while, so the fact that Sheik is in it comes at no surprise.

This brings the total number of confirmed characters up to 15 as of writing, not including unlockables.

Eiji Aonuma Talks DS Development And More

    by Billy Berghammer

hen Shigeru Miyamoto decided to take Link into the third dimension with The Ocarina of Time, he tapped the talents of Eiji Aonuma. From then on, Aonuma has been closly tied to the world of Zelda, most recently with his work on the Phantom Hourglass. We spoke with Aonuma about his thoughts on developing for the DS and his favorite games--and even got a little Super Smash Bros. Brawl scoop.

Game Informer: So how does it feel to have Phantom Hourglass finished

  12. Speaking of clone wars, something that was mentioned under Bowser's description is that there would be some differences in how the characters are controlled and that if we think we can jump right into their melee style of fighting then we are mistaken. So from that I depict things won't be so simple as big = slow and strong (although that actually makes more sense that way... *shrug*)

More over, I'm getting more and more concerned our favorate clones from SSBM and some regulars from SSB are being given the boot to make way for more well-rounded and multi-classing characters.

Example: Ike looks to be a fairly strong toon, but I fear they might ditch Marth and Roy because of it as apposed to having 3 Fire Emblem toons. The same with Ganondorf and Falcon, I hope since they were a fast and slow version of eachothers' attacks they find a way to diversify their moves and keep them, or at least Ganondorf (Falcon was the cheap button in SSB but in SSBM he's dam anoying as crap... and Ganondorf is the epitimy of uberness with the best defense in the game, very good attack and just more sheer uberness)

I know I've already stated it before but I can't help but worry about Shiek's longevity. Yes it's obvious she has many, many fans, (I'm the biggest and taking it to the grave) but the fact remains Shiek was a bi-product that tied in with the Ocarina of Time theme... whereass the current theme is The Twilight Princess... so is she gonna transform into the dark figure instead, or still Shiek, or transform at all and have Shiek as a seperate toon, or will Shiek disapear from Smash period? All are viable possibilities and are the same with Lucas, I hope they keep Ness, but it seems like they're starting to combining toons and reducing numbers so it scares me a little is all.

(As a side note, it's a wonder why they kept the Ice Climbers at all, especially given the Japanese were the ones who got to give input on the toons to be.... seriously the Ice Climbers... what a joke...)

    Ah well...

  13. Actually... I failed to mention I have a good friend teaching EngRish with his wife in Tokyo. I think he's gonna let us recover from jetlag and spend a day or 2 finding a good hotel to stay in while we're there so that's helpful... pretty sure he's taking us out on the town a few nights to hit all the local social scenes and live up the night life. He said something about stopping by the Akihabara in a folly attempt to school me in DDR... that will be the day *snickers*

Kind of a side point but a good lesson all the same is hold on to your friends no matter how distant! Zar, my friend I'm talking about, was no more than a guildy in Everquest for about 3 years before we really started hanging out in the game (especially after the big guild gettogether of '04 in Atlanta, GA) He happened to be a contractor at the time in transportation in the sand trap making some $$$$$, but when he finished that he and his Japanese wife moved to Tokyo and he's been working at the high school for the past few years now.

The small but strong connections you make in life, hold onto them, you won't regret it, as here I am going to see someone on the other side of the world that I met in an online game

    Ok soap off

  14. Thanks for the tip =)

Whats so expensive about Golden Week for 3-4 guys/girls whom will most likely spend most our nights (the ones we don't have specific plans for) drinking sake and meeting as many people as we can lol :?:

Aside all the price fluxuation and what not, why would an over-all kid's week off of school be all that more expensive?

  15. Hmmm bit of a gap here... rest assure I'm not "post padding"...

My friends and I are trying to save in the range of $50-$75 per paycheck in order to have enough to take a 2 week excursion within the next few years. Our goal is to get there for Golden Week, the newest Naruto movie, or the newest Detective Conan movie... but ultimately we just want to get there and that's putting it lightly

*snickers* Per some other friends' request, we're gonna record the purchase of panties from the vending machine :D Those Japanese are so perverted lol...
