Topic please!
as much as a discussion on the Masq may be productive, it does not belong in this thread...
-
By your definition of copyrights, shouldn't it also be illegal to video tape and photograph cosplayers in the hall ways and then post them on the internet? Cosplayers are portraying characters that were not their creation. The same goes with AMVs. People make videos depicting anime, sound clips and music that do not belong to them, show them at cons, then re-post them on youtube or some other site.
Aren't those things almost the same as a masquerade skit?
Just my thoughts...

is that why they wouldnt let us flim and take pictures. if they have no plans to profit from it not sure why we couldnt tape it ourselves if we were able to.
-
it is legally impossible for Otacon and Otakorp to secure all of the liscences and rights necessary to sell copies of our masq. Sadly that is the way the world works!
-
And sadly this has no relevenace here, migrating to chit-chat

I'm planning on doing a musical/song skit for the masq. Are there any limitations on what kind of sound files we can use? As in, can I take clips of songs, splice them together, and lipsynch to those, or do I need to actually record over the songs with my group members?

i would have to wait for edwin to chime in to make a positive id for this, however.
only the orginal character would be ineligible for craftsmanship, not the either group.
but that is my opinion, so YMMV

1) Are the costume contest and masquerade tied together? i.e. can I perform my skit without being in the costume contest? I remember hearing being in both pretty much sucks up your whole Saturday.

AT this time i cannot definitively answer your question.
I am not up to date with our minors policy as a whole, However due to the location of the masquerade in the First Mariner Arena, The standard BCC minors rules do not necessarily apply, especially if participating in any event in the Arena. This is a point where I may make policy.
I'm am going to say that if you are younger than 16, and are participating in any event in the Arena, you must be accompanied by someone over the age of 18.
This is for your own safety, since participating in any event in the arena can place you there when it is not Open to the public, and most likely can have you in and around those working to setup the arena.
This will be the policy for the Arena until such a point as it has been reviewed by our Board of Directors, and approved by our lawyer if it must be. It may change, however it is highly unlikely that it will.

For an answer I am going to quote the 2006 rules.
15. Skits and costumes must predominantly pertain in some way to anime, manga, anime-style video games or some facet of East Asian culture. Original costumes may be worn but are ineligible for craftsmanship judging as it is impossible to determine the accuracy of the costume. -
I hate to say it but a 4 day turn around is not abnormal for these questions. I am an Audio engineer on tour, and Edwin is a fairly high up member of staff at a local Baltimore Television station, Neither of us have desk jobs with steady internet, so please be patient.
Since this year has not been completely setup and built yet, I will give you last year's information
Pre Reg opened with that last 3 or 4 months before the convention, and ran for approx 3 or 4 weeks.
As far as number of entires its a little difficult, but it is fair.
The max number of entries is 40 'adult' and 10 'youth'
For pre reg the first 30/5 (adult/youth) are "reserved" places in the masquerade. Once those positions are full we will accept applications for an additional 40a/10y as "overflow" entires. Overflow entries are allowed on a first come first served basis at the convention ( within a time frame, after the "reserved" entries have registered, when that was i cannot rember)
I hope that Answers your question.

Well in 2006 the upper limit was 15 people in a group. The rules and policies for 2007 are not published at this time and are still under discussion. So YMMV.
But that should give you an idea.

I hate to correct you Jim, but we actually moved up the start of the masq to 7pm ( with doors opening at 5 for the arena).
This was to make sure we didnt run into an over length problem and end up runing past 11:30.
-
please send an email to Edwin with all of the specfics as to WHAT you are trying to do, and what you would need.
Since the Masq is not taking place in the BCC we are more restrictive as to what we can do.

I've pre-registered for the Masquerade.. *sighs* But there are still somethings I have question's on. what is the Otakon member badge? Do you get that when you pay to get in? * has already done this*

Me and some friends want to enter the Masqurade, but we've never been in one before (I never even been to the Masq. at otakon before...*sweatdrops* and I was wondering, is there like a mandatory practice on saturday before the masq.? or something to that effect? Any other information that might be usefull to us? Thank in advance~!
-
Well To make it simple the Max group size is 12.
So keep it under that number, and you should be fine.
-
Since the masq is moving to the arena this year, there are allot of details and contracts that must be signed before we decide on a stage size.
And the Stage size is something that i do not even know, and well I'll probably be one of the first to know.
So don't worry, once the specifics about this years Masq are figured out ( line up and rehersal times being the primary questions in the air), we will release all of that information.
But we have to get the legal mumbojumbo out of the way first.
