  1. My favorite Otakon story ties into the year that I was a TCG (the old 20 hour guaranteed gofers) back in 2008. It was the most satisfying gofering experience and it is what keeps me as a gofer when many have gone on to other things. I was part of a crew that processed nearly 9,000 people (insert Dragon Ball Z joke here). It was done in literally five hours and not the eight we will have this year. I got stuck being a bag person, which is literally refilling the boxes of bags at stations. It was the longest night of my fannish life. If they let me gofer on Thursday night, I hope I get the opportunity to obliterate 9,000 people processed even though it will be in eight instead of five hours.

  2. I work until 8 Pm on Thursday night and I want to pick up my registration after I leave work. I will get down to the Convention center around 9 PM. I know registration closes at 10 PM, but What time does the line close for Pre-Registration Pickup. If it closes around 9 PM, I just will have to go to plan B.

  3. Yes, but it would cost my wife and I *A LOT* more than $30-$50 plus gas to take the Amtrak from Upstate New York. Like, hundreds more. Is Baltimore near the BCC so terrible for driving that it's absolutely avoid at all cost? Because if the problem is just paying for parking, it's no problem at all...
  4. Good question as I will also be driving from NYC to the con. How friendly (or tricky) is it towards those who are driving on the wrong side of the road on the wrong side of the car? (Australia drives on the right hand side of the car and on the left hand side of the road.)
  5. This will be my first year as well. Although I am not a con newbie (I have been to Supanova, Animania, Smash, AI-con, AV-con, (all Australian cons) comic con in San Diego, Comiket in Tokyo and Wonderfest also in Tokyo.), it is my first time to Otakon. Been trying to get to Otakon for years now, and this year it seems that everything falls into place correctly.
  6. The Sheraton City Center block has opened and it is $140 a night. This is according to the Hotel Reservations site. It is also the only one with rooms available on more than Saturday night. People started booking the day after Otakon rooms for last year.

  7. The website has an announcement where there should be a 300 room block opening at the Sheraton City Center opening soon. I would wait to see the official announcement for that room block. It doesn't seem to be on registration website, yet (as of 10 Am this morning when I checked). I like Sheraton's and was thinking about going there over the Days Inn.

  8. This will be my first Otakon but I've been to AWA four times so I'm not feeling too terribly nervous about it. Although I'll be traveling up by train and I've never done that before and I've also never been to Baltimore. *G*
  9. how about some Tokusasu viewings? Old classics like Kamen Rider, (god forbid) Spiderman, Ultraman...and, yeah. FREAKIN' Super Sentai! Maybe even some newer ones like The new Kamen Rider movies and Ultraman: The Next.

And won't Yatterman be out by then?

  10. I think we had one or two calls go for the Ravens for once. Who amongst Ravens fans are starting to look at packages for Tampa? I do know we are going to have a tough AFC Championship against Pittsburgh or San Diego. I say Pittsburgh because of no Ladamien Tomlinson on San Diego's part.

  11. Arserf, Please blog about your experiences. Japan's flight is so expensive I will never be able to go unless I give up Otakon (and all cons) for a couple of years (especially with the yen under 100 to 1 dollar).

  12. Only 33 days until Superbowl 43, which means we are almost at the playoffs. We have three regional teams (Giants, Eagles and Ravens) in the NFL playoffs, but what a wild few weeks in the NFL. We had teams that had a 1-15, 4-12 and 5-11 records make the playoffs (Ravens were the 5-11 team, but guess which are the other two). We had an 11-5 team not make the playoffs (the Patriots and yes they should change the playoff rules because of it). Neither of the top two seeds from last year are in this year (Cowboys and New England). You have the makings for a very wild playoff season. Who is ready, excited and hoping their team gets to Tampa for Superbowl 43?

  13. They do come and go so fast. My fannish gifts for the Holiday were:

    -Dark Knight Blu-Ray

    -Watchmen TP

-Roland Kelts Japanmerica book (he is a guest at Katsucon).

-Stardust SC by Neil Gaiman (in case I choose Worldcon over Otakon next year)

The rest was clothes and a screwdriver, which we need for projects around the house.
