  1. I was wandering Otakon, when i heard a shrill scream. It belonged to a small girl, no older than five. "Woswad Woswad Woswad!"

(I was cosplaying as the Pokemon Roserade) "Woswad Woswad Wosewad!!" she chanted, as she bounced up and down in her Sailor Moon costume, nearly dislodging a hair ornament.

I watched as her mother, who while she restrained the child, pull out a small, digital camera. "Excuse me, may my daughter get a picture with you?" she asked in a weary voice that clearly communicated that she knew that if she didn't ask, her daughter would demand.

So I knelt down, and, nearly being strangled by the child's tight hug, got my picture taken. The little Sailor Moon cosplayer was so endearing, I reached into my purse and pulled out something I knew she'd like: Pokemon cards. I had gotten them in the dealers room earlier, and hadn't the chance to open them yet.

A squeal of excitement, a nod of her mother's head, five minutes later I was reading the flavor text of the cards to the captivated child. Nothing lasts forever, though, and it wasn't too long before I got a call asking me to be somewhere.

I gathered up the trading cards, and with a thank-you from the mother (her daughter had apparently been dragging her around the entire convention center, all day, looking for Pokemon cosplayers. Now she could take her little girl home), I was on my way.

  2. I, too, am a big Silent Hill fan.

And since I am among friends I have a question

is there really no soundtrack made for the movie Silent Hill? I really love the movie, in fact it's one of my favorites and I think it was awesome, but one of my friends told me there was never an official SH movie soundtrack released. I mean I know most of the songs are from other SH games, but did they really never release them all together? Cause that's stupid. And a major bummer ):

  3. This is an absolutely brilliant idea.

So, how will you pass out the map? I won't be a pokemon but I'd love to participate as a photographer. Is there anyway I can casually participate? Like, do I have to walk around with the Pokemon Snap group?

  4. This is fantastic that I found this topic...

Haha, for the past few months I have been having these strange, long dreams all pertaining to Otakon in some way. They're not necessarily bad, just strange. For example, in one dream I was somehow hindered from getting to Otakon until late on Saturday...I got there with my boyfriend and was very unhappy I mad missed the majority of the con. Then I met with all my "Otakon buddies" (this is what I called them in the dream--they were people I have never met before) and I was all set to cosplay and discovered that I didn't have my cosplay. So we somehow ended up in someone's attic (not mine...?) and were digging through all this junk (mind you I'd left my boyfriend and was with all these people that I don't know in reality but in the dream we were good buds) and we were looking for my costume. Suddenly I started thinking that my costume is downstairs in my house hanging in the laundry room...this is where it was in REAL LIFE. However, in the dream, I refused this and kept searching. Then there was a blank spot, and I somehow got to Otakon late on Sunday and was really mad that I had missed most of the con.

This is just one of the dreams. Haha, everytime I've had one I just keep saying to myself "MAN, I MUST REALLY WANT TO GO TO OTAKON THIS YEAR" :D

  5. I think it's tough to decide what anime should never have been made. I mean there's SO MUCH OUT THERE.

I agree with what was said earlier, that it's really a matter of taste. For me, I enjoy pokemon the game. The show? Not so good.

I also agree that some of the main anime people are dissing were huge in bringing anime to America. Sailor Moon and DB are huge. They impacted history! And of course looking back on it they may have seemed silly, but that's only now that we have cool suff like...naurto

    I mean

all the cool anime out there...

Besides, a lot of old stuff gets a bad rap after it's "uncool." Jeeze Transformers went through a time where they were super uncool and dorky and NOW LOOK. And G.I Joe too.

  6. I'vebeento Baltimore Comic-Con, Wizard World Philly and a horror con before, but I understand that Otakon is huge (I'm expecting Wizard World siz, anyone know how accurate or not that is?), and I know that there are things that make it unique. Those are the things that I hope to experience on this, my first Otakon. I will look around the dealer room a little, the artist alley a little, might see a panel if there's something interesting enough, but those are things I've exerienced at other cons. I already know about the Rave, and intend to attend. I also plan to try to cosplay my first time.

What other unique and different things does Otakon offer that you recommend a newbie like me check out?

  7. I've been considering my cosplay for months now. I feel silly though, as I haven't made a decision ):

As usual, Jack Skellington will be making an appearence. I have to fix his pants though--I reworked the costume last year and I didn't like it nearly as much. Which is a bummer, because now that means I have to go back and fix pants that I salvaged sequins from :o

At this point, there's like a 20% chance of a Sally being with me. I have the materials to make a killer custom-done Sally costume, but my two friends that could go with me and be Sally either can't go or don't want to wear a dress (SIIIIIGHHHH) and I can't find anyone else that's my exact size (yes I want to be able to wear my Sally costume aswell...I don't think it's selfish :D )

So other than Jack, I've been thinking Ryuk from Deathnote or Lil from Ergo Proxy. My only problem with Ryuk is building a facial prosthetic. And you know, his wings.

Lil wouldn't be too hard, just a lot of sewing and a possible wig.

I've also thought about doing couple cosplay with my boyfriend. Ideas have been Julia and Spike (I've done Julia before), and Yuko and Kimihiro from XXXHolic.

Whatever I'm doing, I should probably make up my mind cause suddenly otakon is...almost only two months away

  8. I just started Ergo Proxy and it's FANTASTIC.

FMABrotherhood aswell. Though I'm a few episodes behind.

If you're looking for something beautiful, compelling, and just plain awesome, watch Gankutsuou. Not nearly enough people have seen it, and it's amazing (:

  9. As one of the Line monkeys who last year was there when the line formed weds night, and was there for when It wrapped around the building. WEAR SUNSCREEN, and as has been said many times before, Lots of water. And as for holding your place in line, Make friends with the people in front of and behind you. Its a pretty good way to hold your place.

You lined up Wednesday night?! do a lot of people do that? I thought it was only a handful of brave souls that did that :P

I was wondering about the getting out of line thing......... it's good to see that you can run to a bathroom or CVS so long as the people behind you don't mind. Is the line watched over by staffers? I ask this because I was in line for a masquerade at a con, got out of line to use the bathroom, and then I tried to get back in and had problems with a staffer. I was able to get back in line because the people behind me didn't mind. Would something like this happen Thursday night, or is it less strict?
