  1. Now if she smiles at you, begins following you around, and flings compliments at you throughout the weekend...you've found your Stalker Sarah  lol

Any woman will give any man a chance really....it depends on how you hold yourself....confidence, good hygiene, and not staring at their breasts is always a good start.

Being depressed all the time will really down your chances of meeting a girl (much less new friends)

Most girls (check that, most, not all) like things to move at a slow pace....trying to do things too fast will only push them away, and (as my friend from hs learned the hard way) you can't smother them.

  2. Hil-freaking-arious. Really.

I think the lesson we should be taking away from this fellas, is that women/girls/females don't go to cons *looking* for guys. Except for the two maybe that Eva drags along to these meet ups. Should a woman come within 5 feet of you and glance in your direction, it doesn't mean she's.. hrm.. how to put it.. ready to go. She's just looking at you. You can take that as a window to say hey there, hi, whatevs, but if you opt for the costume compliment, when she says "Erm. Thanks.", it's not the point to feel like you should pass some sort of judgment on her because she wasn't gushing at your compliment, nor is it a time to get more specific about how her cosplay fits.

  3. I think this being in the media is making people think it's a new law that's never been enforced, which is comical. It's an at least 10 year old law. They've made it public that they're going to get serious about enforcing it because of the crime rate, and they've gotten federal funding to blow on prevention of juvenile crime.

BPD knows we're there, BACVA knows we're there, and the BCC knows we're there. How much more coverage could we get in regards to that? hah.

  4. There's exceptions provided in the actual code for the curfew. For the law nerds, the minors curfew is Baltimore City Code, Article 19, Sub 34. It's Google-able.

Although this is old news now. They first started talking about this in Baltimore back in April. If it were going to be an issue for Otakon, the "powers that be" would have already discussed it, questioned it, and gotten answers back. Then distilled the answers out to the membership so we understand the new limits, if that were the case.

So it's probably not an issue for us. Just don't wander too far from the BCC and sit on street corners and hang out in front of closed businesses, and they likely won't even stop to ask you why you're out after curfew. :P

  5. OB's not that bad, once you get a chance to get to know the people and all. It's just hard to break into the crowd in forums in a month of free membership unless you're very enigmatic. Or lucked out and got on the beta test back when and have a founding member account. hah.

While I haven't really met people at Otakon (which i'mma have to suck up this year and do, else I'mma be bored trying to wander around finding stuff to do), I've met people at other conventions that may not have dated, but I absolutely adore. And I take that back. There's 1 person that I met at Otakon that I do absolutely adore. hah. I think going without expectation is always the best recipe for success. Then you act like yourself, all that junk. (of course, if your natural self is kinda obnoxious, eh. That might not really work at all.)

  6. Also gives you 2 costumes.

"Man, I did this Death Note cosplay, and everyone else is doing this one. This sucks. Look over there, it's a zombie crew!"

    *musical segue and minutes later*

"Zombie L cosplay! Wow! Thanks zombie people!"

Lol. I really need to sleep more.

  7. Some white base, a bottle of clear karo syrup, red food coloring, and some q-tips, and we'd be 90% of the way to instant zombi-fication on sight. heh. It's a party waitin to happen.

  8. I figured it'd be better to do it outside on the sidewalk or something. Maybe just wander in a large circle over across the skyway. Y'know, something to keep the Orioles fans on their toes. (GO BOSTON)

Maybe even a procession just walking from the BCC to a coffee place and back. That would be such a sweet picture. "In tonight's news; A line of zombies formed at a local Starbucks for their daily coffee fix. Local minister declares the apocalypse is near."

  9. Aww! I'd really like to see that! I may be going as Aerith from CC, but it'll probably next year. I may also be with a Super Smash Brothers Brawl Solid Snake, Hikaru from Angelic Layer...and others undecided. But Zelda from TP is on Friday. And Saturday is Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle!

Ooooh. Hikaru. *drools* I've cosplayed as Icchan Mihara before. Even had a NERV badge made for Icchan since him and Gendo are kinda my two favorite pervy male characters. heh. *wonders where his lab coat is*

Otherwise, I'm just cosplaying as a staffer. It's a slack costume, doesn't require much preparation. :D

  10. I gotta admit. An Otakon zombie walk would be pretty sweet, even though completely unrelated. :D Unless it's in a Versus/Wild Zero style (although personally, I'm totally Shaun of the Dead or completely grotesque Zombi style), then it'd be totally in asian culture relation. XD

  11. Anyone know if the Ruth's Chris there is any good? I realize it's probably not relevant for most people reading this thread but they are having a summer sale for a 3-course meal for two right now...

They're fairly decent. Of course, it's more of an open space dining area than the Ruth's Chris here, which is a lot of booth seating and intimacy. There's a good number of rounded tables on the floor and such. The food quality is up to the Ruth's Chris standard. (And the Inner Harbor Ruth's Chris has even been on a tv show. Go fig.)

  12. I'll be rolling with 11 of my closest friends. On top of that we'll be meeting some friends down there too. We'll be a large group in 2008. We're raiding Inner Harbor (WoW Reference) I wonder if the Ota Staff drops any good loot?
  13. Eh, I wouldn't encourage this -- the best thing to do is to ask the client you're working for and proceed from there. They can dismiss you from your assignment, all the temp company has to do is bring in someone new to fulfill the term contract. You're also reviewed for your professionalism, attendance, etc once your assignment is over and calling out sick a lot is one sure-fire way not to have your assignments upgraded so you can start making $18-25+ an hour. You may also miss out on getting stellar letters of recommendation from people you'd normally never be able to get on the phone. Then again, I'm in downtown DC, so maybe things work a little differently here.

Not all staffing firms are that inflexible. these firms work with people who are in some form of transition so they're understanding. you can basically look at there policies and determine which ones are flexible or not. I too work and live in DC - there are numerous firms in the city. I worked with one a while back and enjoyed it very much....... and I also enjoyed the money :)

I only suggested a staffing firm in the worst case senario. you should of course try and hold onto your job - even if management is giving you hell about taking off. but remember that enjoying yourself is important too. I'm assuming that the people in this fourm who post consistantly throughout the year must place otakon as a high priority - if thats the case then make sure you do everything you can to go to this con!
