  1. I'm amused that no one has figured out that first of all, shinigami being souls can only be hurt by a "soul cutter" zanpakutou so that means pretty much no naruto character can really inflict damage on them. On the other hand, because Naruto series has things like the 4th hokage's soul sealing jutsu which almost seems like it was made to kill shinigami, it's kinda a pointless battle.

  2. Nahahaha, if there is an army, then the well armed Asain ninja-samurai must join. XD

    AIM me at "rosedgunx" to chat and figure out hang out possibilities.

    -Personal Stats-

    Name or Alias:: Hisuitsume

    Age:: 20

    Male or Female:: Male

    Do you need sleep at a con?:: Yes, need about a minimum of of 6 hours every night. Plus sleeping with a buddy is very fun. wink.gif

    Drink or smoke:: Never smoked but drinks socially

    Tell us about yourself:: Second time going to Otakon, Have been to 3 Fanime Cons by the time Otakon rolls around and is set up to attend Anime Expo '10. Easy going and more than happy to meet new cool people. Open to chat over AIM, that button over under my picture of Hibari isn't there purely for decoration ya noe. Yes I am coming out all the way from California, Bay Area to attend Otakon once again just like last year. A deathly 6 hour torture on a plane.

    -Convention Stats-

    Do you go to panels?:: Sometimes, depends on whether it grabs my attention or not but it isn't the end all of the con for me.

    Do you attend the dances/raves?:: Not usually, but a girl can make me change my mind real quick. laugh.gif

    Do you spend any time gaming?:: Not really, but is very open to trying out any kind of game be it board or card or video.

    Do you participate or go to the masquerade?:: Wasn't able to make it to the masquerade last year so I fully plan on attending the one this year.

    Do you cosplay?:: What a silly question, me = Asian = cosplay. biggrin.gif I have done in the past, various shinigami including captains, Itachi Uchiha, Madara Uchiha, Tobi, and this year, I'm adding in to my own list of cosplays Hibari Kyouya of Katekyoshi Hitman Reborn 10 years later version.

    Are you staffing or volunteering at the con? Nope, though I make an attempt to join staff for every con every year.

    What do you spend most of your time doing while attending the convention? Running around and doing everything I can, though much of the time I can be found at the dealers hanging around the weapon shops. Asian + weapons = <3

  3. We think about how the very word cosplay breaks down, we see that it means essentially costume play. Therefore by it's very definition it includes anything that involves dressing up in a unique costume that is either different from everyday wear or a unique combination of closet wear that makes a reference to a specific character. Correct me if my research is wrong, but this term itself was originally created by the Japanese as a fusion of the two words costume and play with their quirk to shorten and meld words to create new terms to describe brand new phenomenon. Therefore we can suppose that it was meant to apply to everything and not just to the anime subculture. However, like any cultural facets that are imported from other countries, cosplay has an entirely different meaning to most of the mainstream otaku community. Here cosplay is nearly the same thing as the otaku subculture in America. So interpreting it within a whole different set of guidelines, it means something else entirely to those of us within the US. But that doesn't mean that his definition can't change to accommodate non-anime and Asian culture costume plays as well.

    Personally I'd have to say that while seeing good cosplayers are a joy regardless of whether their character is from an Asian subculture or not, it does unsettle me to a tiny small point to see the number of non-Asian cosplayers increasing every year when the whole point of the anime/otaku subculture here in America is I think to merge it into American culture, accepting it as an enjoyable part of another culture that has a place here in ours. I don't see it as an interesting concept that we can corrupt and create our own perverted version of the original. Frankly, that's a habit we as Americans tend to do quite often whenever something we like falls into our hands. Instead of enjoying it in its original form we have to Americanize it first before we completely accept it into the mainstream culture. I recognize that most everyone, including even yours truly has done this time and time again. Though even though I say this, the number of anime cosplayers at the moment still by far outnumber those who are not in Asian culture cosplay as we can clearly see by the sheer number of Naruto and Bleach cosplayers every year at nearly every convention there is, no to include the multitude of cosplayers from other series.

  4. Haha! Even if you find a Sasuke, you will have to fight me to earn them back from my Sasuke Harem. Muhahaha! Long live the Uchihacest! :rolleyes:

    I look forward to beating you Naruto, I can't let Pein know his girl is having an affair with me afterall. lol :D

  5. I had planned on not cosplaying this year since my Shisho cosplay isn't con-worthy yet, but this Naruto prom sounds interesting. I might go as Shino if I can. Any ideas on something he might wear?
  6. xD i seriously feel like i did the cheapest costume after reading this thread: aside from the handstiched akatsuki cloak, the poster board, orange and black paint, and ribbon for tobi's mask. MUST OVER COME FIRST TIME COSPLAY ANXIETY!!!!!....and say "Tobi is a good boy....girl" repetitively.

    Are you doing good Tobi or evil Tobi? Cause if you're doing good Tobi and you've got Noobie Cosplay Symdrome already before the con's even started, you might want to avoid me and me gf on Sun as I am going as good Tobi and she's going as Deidara. If your confidence hasn't been boosted by complements by then.

  10. lol If you can survive an encounter with me, the life changing Itachi, then you will no longer be as shy as Hinata. For I am Itachi-sama and will change your life just like I did for my otouto and the uchiha ichisoku.

  11. Once, you get going, just do the cosplay thingie. Go into your character and forget who you were before that. That way you'll be doing a good cosplay as well as getting over your nervousness. And a good boost of confidence is all you need to realize your cosplay was great.

  12. Update: I have managed to get together all the materials I need for my part of the prom outfit. All that's left is to see if the girl half can be found. Then once I have all the parts, commence operation make-a-cheap-ass-last-minute-cosplay-modification-costume. XD

  13. BTW, I'm just wondering, since it's a crossplay that your friend is doing, how does she look. I usually look for strength in guys that cosplay as guy characters for a more realistic fight and looks in girls that crossplay as guy characters for the better photo shoot opportunities.
