  1. I have tickets to the VAMPS concert Thursday, so I'll be bypassing Thursday pick-up for the first time ever. We plan to stroll over on Friday morning about 10ish in order to miss most of the line then.

I wonder if the concert will have a huge effect on the Thursday line? Like, everyone goes to the concert instead of waiting, so there's no one in line. hmm...

  2. Hilton Baltimore from $194 per night--- this is the new one thats connected to the convention center

I find it rather shocking that this hotel still seems to have alot of rooms left. I would have thought that it would sell out fairly quickly since it is connected to the con center and I think that some Otakon things are going to be held in it.

  3. Yes I don't like line camping. No one needs to be in line hours before an event starts, but even if you had reserved seats some idiot would still decide that he needed to be sitting at the door and hour in advance.

Well now, I wouldn't call them idiots, just fanatics. They can be obsessed if they want, it doesn't make them stupid.

Like ZGL said, some people have a thing for standing in line. Again, far be it from me to know why, but they do.

  4. One problem that I see with having pre-reg for the big events is that I don't believe it is fair. Especially if you are talking about registering for these events before the con.

Here is my reasoning for this feeling. There are alot of people who do not register online. They are paying just as much as or even more than the people who pre-reg. They should have the same shot at getting up-front seats as the people that pre-reg.

I feel the same way about registering for the big events at the con. Alot of people aren't able to get to the con right when it starts, yet these people are still paying the same amount to get in as you are. They too should have the same shot as getting good seats as you.

(I have no clue if I am using the 'quotes' right so my apologies if they don't come out)

See I would have to disagree with you on it being fair or not and I haven't clue as to why someone would wait to reg. Unless they don't have computer access, but then how are they checking up on everything?

And pre reg for an even would restrict you to getting there as the con starts. You pre reg.. you get group B. You're in group B. Stickers or what not can be with someone else for when all the reging is done.

And if you want to be the idiot sitting by the door you can go sit on the group w bench and wait because you didn't think ahead.

I don't mean to be a bitch about it, but I don't buy the excuse of 'i didn't prereg.'

  5. You see where I'm coming from, right?

Oh. You mean how just because something is perverted and obscene doesn't mean it's actually doing any harm to anyone? Yeah. A pen and some paper can be a mighty danger to society (warning: that was sarcasm). Still, how anyone finds any appeal in that material is beyond me. Maybe some form of mandatory counseling would be a more suitable punishment seeing as how there are clearly some issues there.

  6. Apologies for any confusion.

Asrial Dune (Matt) is actually on the team that enforces such policies -- I am not. His answer on this issue would be the one to pay attention to. (I remember our policy as being "must cover what a standard bathing suit would cover", but the last time I was directly involved was in 2005/6.) I'll push for a clarification to be added to our policies page, in any case.

My point is merely this: policies vary and are most often an issue that is decided by the venue, local standards, climate, etc. rather than just convention staff being mean or arbitrary. So our policies -- whatever they might be -- don't have any effect on that other convention's rules.

  7. Ok, now I'm a little confused. I've kinda of gotten conflicting answers. Unless I am reading too much into his post, I've got Alabaster basically saying that males can go shirtless at Otakon, yet then I've got Asrial Dune saying no males cannot go shirtless at Otakon. So which is it. (I do faintly remember shirtless Zabuza cosplayers at Otakon in 2007, I missed last year's con)

It's not that important, the conflicting answers are just confusing.

It's not for me anyway since I am a girl, and if I went shirtless it might be scary. My DD's would probably cause someone to fall down the escalator or something.

    :lol::lol::lol:

  8. I have a question that came up as an issue at my local con, and I wondered what Otakon's policy has been on it.

Can male cosplayers go shirtless? It seems that a male cosplayer at my local con dressed up a Ace from One Piece, and he was told that he had to put a shirt on. Would he have been made to put a shirt on at Otakon?

  9. I believe the Otakon rate was 199.00.

I also used the Hyatt but AAA since it was less. I did it that way to assure I get my Hyatt frequent hotel stay points.

I don't believe they give frequent hotel points for these hotels using the otakon rate...but still not sure.

  10. I don't know if they Hyatt was ever in the system or not because I just booked the rack rate, but I'm gonna tell you that I got lucky. I got a room for $229 a night a few days ago. I just checked their rates again and they have now upped them (guess they figured out that it was Otakon weekend) The lowest regular rate is now a whopping $489.00 a night. Hope everyone that wanted a Hyatt room actually got Otakon rates or made it in before the regular rates changed.

That is the regular room rate for the Hyatt. The discount for Otakon is significant.

  12. I'm heading back on May 11 - May 27 next year. Hopefully it won't be too rainy during that time, but as long as were not hit with a typhoon I'll be happy. I would have liked to travel again during the cherry blossom blooming, but I'm taking my niece and her college freshman year doesn't end until May 9.

  13. At our business, we are fairly flexible. The employees get a week off each year plus holidays and 5 days sick leave. They don't have to give us alot of notice, it is just on a first come first serve basis. We don't want everyone taking the same week off. Sometimes things happen that someone has to have the same week that someone else already has scheduled. We will usually find a way for them both to take off.

My situation is a little different, I pretty much take off whenever I want to. One of the perks of being the owner's daugther :D

  14. Hey, when did they add the neat little event planner thing to the member's only area. I like it alot!!!!!! I love having the dealers, schedule(tentative) things, and eventually the artists listed like that beforehand, that's cool as crap.

Great job on that little website aspect. :D

    Psst....what's a party plaza :D

  15. The next part of the video showed about 40 kids in the hallway of the Sheraton making all sorts of noise (of which there were MANY complaints, from what I've heard) and dragging furniture into the hotel elevators and leaving it there

Does anyone know the username of the video poster, I was the instigator (one of them) of the fun, didn't know there was video proof and wouldn't mind seeing it

  16. Someone needs to update the vitals page badly. I called the Sheraton Baltimore City Center today to not only find out their so-called Otakon block is apparently full. But when I told them the Otakon site said that their hotel had a 'Lot of 710' rooms available for the convention, they informed me that they only had 700 rooms total in their hotel and not even half of them were for the Otakon rate apparently. Either the hotel booking staff is lying or the Otakon is; either way i'm still an unhappy camper who's now stuck with a single bed room at the Raddison, which says they only have SIngle bed rooms available for the con now as well.

    Dandy.

  17. Anyone know if the Sheraton Inner Harbor waitlists? I really really want to stay there again, but they're completely sold out already. I know some people will probably drop rooms closer to the event, but I can't really keep up with calling every week or so to scavenge a room.
  18. $269 is the MOST they can charge per room... but it usually isn't their normal offered rate. I know for certain the $199 rate was their normal offered rate for that weekend, both from the 1-800 number and online bookings.

I had the 169 rate as I was a single adult with kids. They changed my room to the 199 rate. (and included me in the block). Both are unfair as there were people who were at the top of the waiting list who were told the block was full before they even got a chance.
