  1. -Personal Stats-

    Name (First name or Alias):: Michelle

    Age:: 20

    Male or Female:: Female

    Do you need sleep at a con? Depends on REM cycles. Ideally I'd like about 6 hours, but I realize that's a lot to ask.

    Drink or smoke:: No, not usually.

    Tell us about yourself:: I'm pretty chill, I don't do much flailing about, though I do get excited over some things. I'm a pretty big gamer and I'm more likely to recognize game characters than anime characters. I can be shy at first, but that's pretty normal. I should also add that I'm going alone so I may need some company at times.

    -Convention Stats-

    Do you go to panels? Not usually, but I think I will attend 2-3 at Otakon.

    Do you attend the dances/raves? Yes, if there's good music I'm there!

    Do you spend any time gaming? I prefer to game at home, but I may drop in here and there to observe.

    Do you participate or go to the masquerade? I want to go for sure.

    Do you cosplay? Of course! This year I'm doing 4 Kokoro outfits from Dead or Alive.

    Are you staffing or volunteering at the con? Nope.

    What do you spend most of your time doing while attending the convention? Walking around the Dealer's Room, going in and out of random rooms, mingling... usual con stuff.

  2. 6. How would bag check be handled (or would there even be one)?

    My main concern was what, if anything, would be going on next door in any of the adjoining rooms. As well intentioned as it may be, soundproofing something like the rave is bound to be a matter of degrees.

    Then again, if traffic flow would be more free and permit a less constricted bag check, that could be worth a little noise bleed-over.

  3. Haha, webyugioh - your avatar is making me laugh. I don't really get why he's representing the Japanese language, but I'll just go with it! :D

    This will be my first Otakon. It's also my first time riding a train, going on an airplane since before 9/11 (um... about 8 years?), going to an out-of-state con, going to a con of this size, staying with strangers, going to such a big city - and I'm really exciting about all of it. I'm hoping to have at least 3 new costumes sewn too. Yay!

  4. A lot of people seem to have complaints about the lights being on. You may want to look into the Hilton's policy on lighting, as that may be another deciding factor.

    My only fears are the technical aspects of it. How are the acoustics in the ballroom? Would the DJs be able to have better quality music in the current location or in the ballroom? Will people be able to find the new location easily? A 'ballroom' implies a more elegant, controlled environment, unlike the madness that typically occurs at raves. Sound control is another issue. Will anyone be disturbed by the loud music and bass? While the Hilton will be fully prepared for the Otaku crowd, I'm not sure it would be ready to take on the large amount of ravers. As previously stated, it did look like there were plenty of gaps of space in the current location. Part of the experience of the rave is a large amount of people enclosed in one area, anyway - though I'm sure many won't agree with me here, heh.

    I'll just agree with whatever location will be easier for staff, con-goers, DJs, VJs, and the Hilton and BCC staff. And of course, whichever disturbs the civilians the least.
