[Otakon News]Otakon 2021 to Take Place as Scheduled
Clutch replied to OtakonNews's topic in Otakon Announcements
Not everyone on the planet uses Facebook (and for good reasons). Any announcements should be posted on the Otakon site with the full details! -
I am fully vaccinated, and don't have a problem wearing masks.

Will Otakon cancel again this year (2021)?
Clutch replied to Daniel Perales's topic in General Chit-Chat
It was in mid April last year when it was mentioned about the convention center becoming a field hospital, and conditions this year are not the same as last. President Biden announced that he is working to make vaccines available to the general public in May. There is a good chance that many of us will be vaccinated by the end of June, and the conditions for lifting restrictions will be a lot greater. -
I keep hearing the news saying that they will have a lot of us vaccinated in April. Here's hoping. π

Donated what I could. Hope it helps. Would be better to get the word out to more people. Those with fond memories of Otakon may be willing to help.

I finally opened the 20th Anniversary edition of The Transformers: The Movie and started watching it. Something seems off, then I notice that Hot Rod is fuchsia? They really messed up the colors in this version. Does anyone have the Blu-ray and is the update any better?

I was wondering how it will be possible to hold Otakon, since the roll-out of vaccines is not looking good right now. How would you do Social Distancing anywhere in the rooms? How long would the line to the Dealer's Hall be with everyone 6 feet apart? I would be happy to keep my Otakon attendance streak going, but have my doubts about it occurring in 2021 safely. Time will tell.

The sad state of Baltimore Harborplace
Clutch replied to Daniel Perales's topic in General Chit-Chat
The Inner Harbor was already hurting when Otakon first got there. On the very first Baltimore year we went to pool hall with a name that started with Charles (Charles Billiards?) that was on the skywalk near the Hyatt. It was gone the next year, and nothing else was put in place as far as shopping or entertainment. The last year Otakon was in Baltimore they were turning that skywalk level into a parking lot. I would bet the hotels are really hurting too. Taking down the skywalks was not beneficial either, but they did not want to pay to rehab them from what I understand. Over time, Harbor Plac -
Sooooooooooo I had a bit of nostalgia looking this up.

I have seen the same person wear the 1994 shirt to a bunch of Otakons. Stopped wearing mine when the colors started to fade, and the tongue was no longer pink. -
I was not sure which year it was, but that is also my favorite. Alas, it sits in a drawer never to be worn again because I don't want to wear it out.

Gave most of my Otakon shirts away, but kept a few for sentimental value. 1994, 1995, the long sleeve black one (my all time favorite), blue denim shirt, and a few of the recent ones. Used to buy one every year, gave them to someone who would wear them. -
Not a contract person, and I was only speculating. Never heard of "force majeure" before. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force_majeure

I will guess that future contracts will be a lot more complex. Maybe pandemic clauses?

Otakon Online 2020: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Clutch posted a topic in Post Otakon Online 2020
The Good: Otakon still going on in some way, even though we could not be at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center together. People willing to volunteer their time to entertain us. Much appreciated! π π€π€ π The Bad: The volume levels on the presentations were all over the map. You could barely hear one person, but have your ears blown off when changing to a different channel. Would have liked to see a dedicated Anime channel, even if it was something we have seen 100s of times. Twitch has done Pokemon and Yugi Oh marathons, so it may be possible to get rights -
I saw some of it, and was jokingly going to put up a Good, Bad, Ugly thread for it. π€

You can start fermenting your own con funk and have it ready by Saturday. Pop the sealed lid and PEW! Just like being at the real convention. π
