  1. Yeah online conventions I feel work best when it's literally streamed, and the streamer pulls ppl in through Discord calls and other means of participation like that. Just showing anime eps on stream (which I'm 99% sure is illegal unless it's Funimation / Sentai / Discotek etc doing it with their own content) isn't anything special and unique to most... I mean I have a Plex server with MANY MANY anime series and movies that I can just sit at home (or anywhere really) and watch... I don't even really sit in IRL con video rooms much for that reason. I had wanted to do a panel on music rhythm games for OtaOnline 2020 on Aug 1, but I didn't have time to really put it together in time... I might do the same panel IRL at a con in 2021 or beyond, but I'd have to work some things out to make it work properly. But all in all, online con aren't for me as it defies the purpose of a con... which is gathering with fellow otaku in person and nerding out about otaku culture and whatnot... something online cons in my view cannot do.
  2. Haha yeah! Agreed... I've never like the concept of "online cons". While I understand their appeal/purpose, I just can't get behind it.
  3. Interesting analysis. Yeah I'm with you that it's more of a "telethon" than a traditional con. I didn't watch any of it not because I didn't want to, but because I forgot.. haha. My sleep schedule is so messed up that I was up all night (like I will be again tonight likely since I just woke up.. oof) that I wouldn't have been able to "attend". I really hope it's safe to attend cons in person again ASAP in 2021 (hopefully by the end of January for MaGFest? Please?). This year sucked and we need some redemption. lol.
  4. There's been conflicting info about whether or not it'll play PS4 games from what I've seen.. I guess we'll have to see...
  5. I won't be getting a PS5 until there's a Project Diva for it.
  6. Yeah I heard that as well, but let's see what happens. If it runs I'll try and go... If it gets cancelled? Then that's okay too.
  7. I'm hoping the same to happen with AnimeNYC, but yeah let's see.
  8. Here're my annual requests for: Seiyuu: The (5) original Sailor Moon Sailor Senshi Seiyuu (or as many as possible / who's available, but at least the OG 5 would frickin' LEGENDARY): Mitsuishi Kotono (Tsukino Usagi/Sailor Moon) Hisakawa Aya (Mizuno Ami/Sailor Mercury) Tomizawa Michie (Hino Rei/Sailor Mars) Shinohara Emi (Kino Makoto/Sailor Jupiter) Fukami Rica (Aino Minako/Sailor Venus) Seeing the voices of Usagi and Rei on-panel stage performing their famous to the series tongue fights... That'd be too funny. Any other kind of in-character dialogue between the characters would be awesome too, and my Otaku self would be so happy! Musical Guest: The awesome, the one... the ONLY... DO AS INFINITY! I've been wanting to see them live for ages. I almost got a chance to go to Japan to see them, but that never happened. They were here in the US at San Japan in San Antonio, TX last year, but that's not a con I can get to easily. Please bring them to Otakon 2021 or some year soon!!
  9. Yeah seriously... It'll be interesting having a Miku Expo concert happening on an odd numbered year... it's usually every other even numbered year...
  10. Those hotels should be added late June/early July, but there's no way of telling for sure... Last week's mis-announcement didn't effect the Marquis and others because even then they weren't available.
  11. Me too! I actually booked at the Renaissance and the Embassy, though I'm more leaning towards the Embassy cuz it's a suite room. If the Residence Inn gets added on Monday I'mma book that as well.
  12. Holy crap.. I just had a mini heart attack, knowing that it'd be live a week from today... and not today. >_>
  13. Yeah all major cons are making exceptions to their "no refund" policies for this year. I've yet to prereg for AnimeNYC 2020, but I will soon.. I wanna give it time to see how things unfold.
  14. Yeah it was being held at the Javits where NYCC and ANYC happen... I'm just hoping that by some MIRACLE AnimeNYC still happens... If it's not cancelled by like September I'm preregging and going even if I have to wear a mask the entire con (of which I hope won't be the case by then). Daniel are you going to ANYC? We could meet up and get lunch or something.
  15. Sure! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Oooof that must have been brutal...
  17. Yeah it's all moot in terms of Otakon since it was cancelled today.
  18. Aresef hits the nail on the head here. Different conventions/conferences have different budgets/needs to run their events. AwesomeCon might be able to come up with "replacement" vendors etc where as Otakon may not. I'd also like to echo the points surrounding hotel availability, and peoples' travel plans. Where ever I've worked so far I was able to get time off for the 4-5 days that I need for cons, including travel, so I've been lucky, but other companies might not be able to do that, especially if the employee asks for the same amount of days off TWICE, even if it's months apart. Lastly, I'd also like echo the postpone planning aspect. Anime Central, when laying out their statement for what their options besides cancellation were said that sure they could have rescheduled ACen for November or December, but even if they could pull that off it'd make it super stressful and near impossible to plan properly for ACen 2021. Totally irresponsible to even attempt, so them just full on cancelling (with also their main hotel partner the Hyatt Regency O'Hare opting out) was the right thing to so, breaking many a heart that had wanted to attend. Anime Boston did the same thing, and I was depressed as all hell that weekend, because it's home con and it's my cheapest one as well. Anyway, with all that said, if Otakon can't happen this year as scheduled due to COVID-19 (or whatever other reason) I think we should just leave it at that. I understand many of us have attended for many years, some in the double digits like myself, but I think our health is better and more important that our geeky/nerdy urges to be in heaven for a weekend, as much as it pains me to say it.
  19. Re: #5: conceptually it's cool and it could work, but it's just not the same to have a "virtual" con. I love cons so much as I do because it's cool to congregate with people of similar interests and just hang out. Anime Boston goers proposed the same idea for AB when/as it was canned, but I was too depressed that weekend to event try it.
  20. All valid points.. For me I have Miku Expo on September 17th up here in Boston, but in November I want to attend AnimeNYC in the fall, of which when I hope it's totally cleared up. I guess we'll have to see what Otakorp decides...
  21. I guess we'll wait and see what Otakorp says and decides... we still have a little over 3 months to go. Things can change drastically (yes either way) by then. I'm not giving up hope just yet.
  22. Yeah that sucks for those that wanted to go... I didn't want to, but it still sucks.
