  1. AMV THEATER INFO
AMV Theater is back in Room 202 (same awesome place as the previous 2 years).

AMV Theater will be running all convention-weekend as-normal. Likely 9AM-1:30AM Friday/Saturday, 9AM-4PM Sunday.

New info will be added here as it is finalized.

    -----------------------

    SUBMIT AN AMV-RELATED PANEL
If you're interested in submitting a panel for Otakon 2024's AMV Theater, you should register through the "normal" Otakon means here:
    https://www.otakon.com/activities/panels/
The descriptions are a little dated so the years are wrong, but the rest of the information is accurate.  The deadline to register for a panel is 5/13/2024.

When submitting a panel suggestion, there is a drop-down asking "What kind of programming do you want to bring to Otakon?"  If you choose "a video focused presentation", that's code for "Hey AMV Theater, notice me Senpai."

Note that we do present non-AMV events in AMV Theater, if they are panels that are A/V heavy.  Sometimes we even just talk about Space for an hour.

    IRON EDITOR

    Who:
BecauseImBored1 tries to keep the streak alive against long-time AMV creator: Compbros!

    What:
Two AMV editors spend two hours editing an AMV in front of a live audience. No pressure. There will also be plenty of audience participation events.

    How?
Each contestant will be given 6 anime sources, and all 6 must be used. Each contestant is allowed to cut their audio ahead of time and bring it with them to the event. They may bring multiple tracks if they so desire, as no audio will be provided during the event. In addition, each editor must use at least 1 second of EACH secret ingredient.

    Sources:
This year's theme is "Murder Mystery on a Train", and the sources are as follows:
    Baccano!
    Rail Wars!
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress Movie: The Battle of Unato
    Galaxy Express 999 (1978)
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (the movie)
    Plus the Secret Source!

    When and Where:
Saturday, July 29th, 4:15pm, AMV Theater (time and date subject to change).

    THE AMV CONTEST

There are 3 screenings, all in AMV Theater (1 on Friday, 2 on Saturday). There will be voting at all 3 screenings. AMV Theater seats 700 people now, so this should accommodate everyone who wants to see the contest, but if history repeats itself, you might have a hard time getting a seat at the Saturday evening screening. The AMV Contest Awards Ceremony will also be held in AMV Theater on Sunday.

    AMV Contest Rules:
    https://www.otakon.com/activities/amv-contest/

This year we are opening up the doors a bit and accepting AMVs using footage that is "culturally relevant" and not necessarily anime. What is "culturally relevant"? Well, that's up to each judge's personal preferences. We're trying to branch out and be more accepting. Hopefully this won't lead to contest drama.

AMV Contest deadline is June 26th. Yes, this is a week earlier than last year. We've been pushing it too close for the last few years, so we had to claw it back a bit.

    AMV Contest FINALISTS:

These ribbons entitle you to reserved seating at any of the 3 AMV Contest screenings, and the AMV Contest Awards presentation. Because we expect each event to completely fill, we will start giving away seats in the reserved section 10 minutes prior to each event starting, so be sure that you show up with at-least 10 minutes to spare.

  4. IRON EDITOR
    Who:
BecauseImBored1 returns to Otakon to defend her Iron Editor title against JMI Productions...who is also defending his title win from last year...it's complicated.

    What:

They may bring multiple tracks if they so desire, as no audio will be provided during the event. In addition, each editor must use at least 1 second of EACH secret ingredient.

    Sources:
Keeping with Otakon's theme of "Time Skip", Iron Editor's theme will be "What's old is new again", with the sources being classics that my old-self grew up with, and their modern re-imaginings.
End of Evangelion / Evangelion 3.0+1.0
Sailor Moon SuperS / Sailor Moon Eternal movie 2
Dragon Ball Z: The Legendary Super Saiyan / Dragon Ball Super: Broly
    Plus TWO (related) secret sources!

    When and Where:
Saturday, July 30th, 4:15pm, AMV Theater (time and date subject to change).

    Why?
Free badge if you compete. Free medal if you win!

    AMV THEATER INFO
Otakon 2022 is back open for business, and so is AMV Theater, now 100% bigger.  No seriously, we moved rooms, and now it's twice the size.  Unless things change, we've relocated to Room 202 (formerly "Panel 1").

AMV Theater will be running all convention-weekend as-normal. Supposedly we do NOT have to run with reduced hours this year, so we will be back on our regular schedule, closing at 1:30AM instead of midnight.

    -----------------------
    THE AMV CONTEST
Like with 2021, the AMV Contest will not be simulcast to a second room.  Also like 2021, we are going to still hold 3 showings, all in AMV Theater (1 on Friday, 2 on Saturday).  There will be voting at all 3 screenings.  AMV Theater seats 700 people now, so this should accommodate everyone who wants to see the contest.  The AMV Contest Awards Ceremony will also be held in AMV Theater.

    AMV Contest Rules:
    https://www.otakon.com/activities/amv-contest/

Very important takeaway in regards to our "anti-trolling policy". We've always ignored awards issued by online contests, and that doesn't change this year, but it's especially important to note that this also takes into account cons that would have normally held in-person events, but couldn't this year. Ex: Otakuthon is normally an in-person con, but Otakuthon 2021 was virtual-only. Even if your video won "Best in show, life, the universe, and everything" at Otakuthon 2021, since it had no live in-person screening, we're treating it like any other online contest.  I don't know how many other 2021-2022 cons were "online only", but we want to still leave that door open.

AMV Contest deadline is July 4th. I'll be celebrating with burgers, beer, and MP4s :?

Otakon 2021 is back open for business, and so is AMV Theater.
AMV Theater will be running all convention-weekend as-normal.  The con itself has to run reduced hours, as they need 8 hours to clean the building each night, but if the con's open, we're open.

    The AMV Contest:
Unfortunately the convention center took away the "big room" that we used for featured events (The AMV Contest) and turned it into a broadcast studio.  As such, the AMV Contest will be restricted to AMV Theater.  We will have 3 screenings, one Friday evening, one Saturday late morning, and one Saturday early evening.  All 3 will have voting.  This should allow us to seat 1,400 people.  AMV Contest Awards (Sunday) will also take place in this room, with the first place winners also being screened during closing ceremonies.  It's not ideal, and it's something we'll re-evaluate for 2022, but when you've only got 60 days to program a con, you stick with the devil you know 😕

    AMV Contest Entrant Perks
If you entered a video in this year's contest and weren't disqualified (so...everyone above), you're entitled to 3 ribbons (one for you, two for your homies).  You can pick up these ribbons at PROGRAMMING OPS (WEWCC 209A-C, there's a sign outside).  Bring some form of ID that says you're you.
These ribbons entitle you to reserved seating at any of the 3 AMV Contest screenings, and the AMV Contest Awards presentation.  Because we expect each event to completely fill, we will start giving away seats in the reserved section 10 minutes prior to the event starting, so be sure you show up with at-least 10 minutes to spare.

    Non-Finalist Screenings
Every video that we received that did NOT make the final contest, will be shown during one of our three non-finalist screenings sprinkled throughout the weekend.  Videos will be screened alphabetically by studio name, so if your studio name starts with A, you might want to show up to the Friday non-finalist screening.  Regardless of where you sit in the alphabet, if you're present, you're more than welcome to come to the booth and let us know that you're in attendance, and if we haven't played your video already, we'll move it to the top of the list so you get a chance to see it.  We have just enough time to show each video once!

    Iron Editor:

    Who:
Two new challengers appear as we reboot Iron Editor: Otakon, again!  JMI Productions takes on Mysunsai!

    What:
It's Iron Editor Hostess Mel's birthday, so she's throwing a dance party.  Otakon's not allowed to have a dance, so instead, each contestant will have two hours to create their most dance-tastic AMV they can. Only one editor will emerge victorious.  Things will probably still get sweaty, gross, and loud, so it's almost like the real thing!

    How?
Each contestant will be given 5 anime sources, and all five must be used. Each contestant is allowed to cut their audio ahead of time and bring it with them to the event. They may bring multiple tracks if they so desire, as no audio will be provided during the event. In addition, each editor must use at least 1 second of the secret ingredient.

  6. ===========
    OTAKON INFO
    ===========
Game-time folks!  Here's the important stuff!

    AMV Contest Times
    -------------------
    Friday 4:30PM - 7:00PM
    Saturday 4:00PM-6:30PM
    Sunday 9:00AM-11:00AM

All 3 screenings are in Video 1, which is Hall A in the BCC.  The Sunday screening is an encore screening and there will be no voting then.  The contest runs 2 hours and 2 minutes.  The last half-hour on Friday and Saturday is to give the room time to empty out.  Please be advised that during the Friday and Saturday screenings we will be packed to capacity.  If you don't get in line early enough, you may unfortunately be turned away.  Also, since we will be packed like sardines, if you have to leave the room for any reason, you will not be permitted re-entry.  There are bathrooms and water fountains inside the theater, so please plan accordingly.

    AMV Non-Finalists (Overflow) Times
    ----------------------------------
    Friday 9:00AM-11:00AM
    Saturday 9:00AM-10:00AM

We have 5 hours worth of non-finalists but only 3 hours to show them in due to too much awesome being on the schedule this year.  The playlist will be arranged differently this year.  We took the top 3 hours of non-finalists based on their prescreening score, randomized them, and moved them to the top of the playlist.

IF YOU ARE AT AN OVERFLOW SCREENING AND WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR VIDEO IS PLAYED, PLEASE COME BEHIND THE CURTAIN AND REQUEST IT! We will bump your video to the top of the playlist if it hasn't already been played, regardless of where it "placed" during pre-screenings.  We want to give priority to the creators in attendance, but some people have picked up on this and started indicating on their submission form that they would be at Otakon, when they never showed up.  This is the best way that I could come up with to ensure a good show and make sure that everyone gets to see their work.

    AMV Creator Badges
    --------------------
If you entered the Otakon AMV Contest and didn't get disqualified (non-finalists are safe!) then you are eligible for special creator badges.  Each creator gets 3 badges for them or their friends, and the badge allows the wearer to skip the line for the AMV Contest and get seated in the good seats.   To make sure that you get a seat, please show up no later than 15 minutes before the AMV contest starts, or we will give away what's left of the reserved seats to the public.

    OTAKON PRE-SCREENING TIDBITS
    ============================
So we had an Otakon pre-screening. 15 judges. 138 videos. 2 trash bags worth of beer.

2,070 votes later, the finalists are decided. Compared them to all of the winners of all the other 2013 cons thus far. Surprisingly, there were a lot of "trolls", but none of them even qualified for Otakon finals (yet) so no conflicts there.

    =============
    OLD NEWS
    =============
    Hi all.
The Otakon deadline is passed and all entries have been collected. The next step is to decide which videos move on to the final competition. If you have nothing else to do on July 6th, there is limited seating still available for you to help decide the contest finalists!

Otakon pre-screenings are going to start at 11AM Saturday July 6th. If you want to come earlier and stay later, that's fine too since we're making a weekend event out of it, though the actual video-watching will only occur on Saturday. The location is in Sicklerville, NJ. PM me for more details.
    -------------------------
Due to AnimeUSA moving to September, I will be accepting submissions to both Otakon and AnimeUSA simultaneously. This introduces a few new moving parts but also makes a few things easier as well.

The official rules for both cons are up and viewable at this address:
    http://vicbond007.net/2013_rules/

They are also linked to by their respective conventions.

FTP is operational at this time. any downtime will be announced on the rules page.

The submission process now allows you to use 1 form to send your video to two conventions at once, but this comes with extra stipulations so please be sure to read the new rules very carefully.

Submissions ARE CLOSED FOR OTAKON. FTP deadline for Otakon was 1AM EST 6/17.  The mailing deadline was 6/16.

  7. Hi renji,

Sorry I did not reply sooner. Never could get the BB to e-mail me when stuff is replied to.

Either display format is fine. 720x480 16:9 mpeg2 is how we are screening the contest, but if your entry is 848x480 (or 854x480, 6 of one, half dozen of another) you can send that instead.

Words are fine, so long as they're not just "there" because that's what was on screen at the time. If they work WITH your video, then by all means go ahead. We don't actually have a "no subtitle" hard-rule, but we do have a "if we see fansubs flashing around on screen just because they're in ye-olde-stolen footage, then it will get downvoted out of the contest" rule.

    Overflow Info

"Overflow" is where we show all of the entries that were not outright disqualified, but also did not make the final cut. We intend to show everyone's video once, and we have enough time this year to do so (thanks Jim!). Right now the playlist is set up in alphabetical order by studio name, but BY ALL MEANS if you have an entry in Overflow, pay a visit to the man behind the curtain and we'll bump your video to the top of the playlist.

    L33t-Seat Badge Info

If you submitted a video to the contest and DID NOT get disqualified, then you and 2 friends are eligible for special supplementary badges. These badges are NOT replacements for paid Otakon membership badges. These badges allow you to sit in the really good reserved rows, and allow you to skip the line and walk right into the theater. We do ask that you show up AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE CONTEST STARTS or else we will give away any unclaimed "special" seats. They are only good for the Friday and Saturday AMV Contest screening as these are the only two AMV events that have a line (and they work for both days if you want to come twice!). If your video was categorized as a "troll" then that is still not disqualified, and you are still eligible for badges.

To pick up your badges, the creator themselves must visit room 312 in the BCC at one of thes scheduled times:

    Friday 2:00pm - 5:00pm

    Friday 9:30pm - 11:30pm

    Saturday noon - 1:30pm

I will also try to have them on-hand during the overflow screenings.

    Prescreening Info

Calling all people who have nothing better to do on a Saturday!

If you can drag yourself to Philadelphia PA by 11AM 6/23/2012, you get to help pick the finalists for the AMV contest!

Yes, you will have to watch every video, you don't just get to pop in, upvote your own entry, and leave. This is real work. If you're interested, PM "chaeseco", 'cuz it's his house.

DRAGGED INTO THE 21ST CENTURY, KICKING AND SCREAMING

Due to powers beyond my control, the AMV contest will be screened in WIDESCREEN this year. This means that despite what we've been doing for the past 20 years, if at all possible, you should NOT letterbox your footage ahead of time. Any AMVs that we receive pre-letterboxed, will be scaled up slightly so that the video doesn't have black bars on all 4 sides. I have NO problem doing this for you, so please, if your source footage has been pre-letterboxed, by all means, send what you have! If your source is natively 16x9, then send that. If your source is 4x3, we will play it in the center of the screen, no DragonBox style cropping will be performed on 4:3 videos.

If you're still confused, consult this image:

    letterboxing.jpg

Note that the dark grey area represents the screen that the video will be projected on.

I will be updating the official and unofficial rules ASAP.

    More Stuff

'sup folks. I'm back for more fun, more abuse, and more fun abuse!

The official rules are posted here:

    http://www.otakon.com/events_amv.asp

We are accepting entries at this time. Entries that were submitted prior to the rules being officially posted, will be looked at shortly.

The major changes this year are:

    1) I added a new rule prohibiting the use of your song/trailer's original music video/trailer footage, in your own AMV. It's subject to interpretation, but it'd generally be a good idea to avoid using the original music video as source footage in your own. It can very easily lead to us getting "teh sued". If you HAVE to use portions of the original music video, you can PROBABLY get around this limitation by applying a heavy video filter or two to the footage so that it is different enough from the original, though this is still open to Ota-lawyer's interpretation.

    2) We ARE aware that Anime Next takes place on our deadline weekend, so videos that win their first major award at Anime Next, are exempt from the anti-trolling rule, as prohibiting those entries would go against the spirit of the rule.

I'll answer questions and things in this thread, and this first post will level-up over time to include updates about AMV-Contest-like-events going on at Otakon 2012.

  9. Iron Editor

Kiarrens is going up against reigning champ Christopher Brown. The theme is Vampires Suck, and the sources are ALMOST locked in. Scintilla will be hosting the event. It will be from 8:30-11:30PM in panel 1, wherever that is.

Is this still the right time, or does the currently posted schedule (I believe it says that it starts at 6:30) overrule?

    Thanks!

The posted schedule is correct. It is 6:30 now.

  10. heh... try Vampire Hunter D for source since Rosario + Vampire wont be available

Rosario + Vampire is actually one of the shows I was considering, but I haven't found a good batch of episodes yet. Ironically, most of the vampire shows I've watched lately have *sunglasses* sucked.

  11. Out of curiosity, will there be a category count in the future? Such as, how many action there was, how many comedy there was, and so on?

I can publish that after pre-screenings since we get quite a bunch that are "undecided" to start with.

Okay, that would be nice. Thank you. :)

Another question though. I have never went to Otakon before, this should be my first time, if all goes well. Does the AMV screenings have the AMV schedule in it?... or, is there any way at the con we will be able to have the schedule on hand, be it in a con book or something? If not, that is fine, but just curious here too. :)

For the AMV contest, you'll be handed a ballot when you walk in that lists all of the finalists. For overflow, I don't publish a list of videos because that playlist is dynamic. We move things around based on which creators show up to which screening.

    AMV Contest Ballot

    OtakonAMVBallot2011-1.jpg

Due to legal difficulties, Trinity Studios - Something Beautiful was replaced by Bittersweet Temptation Studios - Without You, at the con. There was no time to reprint the ballot but we tried to make it as clear as possible that votes for video #19 would be applied to the replacement video, and yes, it did get some votes!

TRIVIA CONTEST ALL UP IN HERE!

Those of you who've attended the contest in 2009/2010 know that while we are seating everybody, we play trivia cards like you would see played before movies (you know, BEFORE theaters realized they could sell the spots for MORE COMMERCIALS instead!). Well, thinking is hard, so this year I'm going to bribe you fine folks to come up with some new hotness. Details are here:

    http://vicbond007.com/otakontrivia/rules.html

TRIVIA DEADLINE IS CLOSED, DON'T SEND ME ANYTHING. JUSTIN DAVIS WON THE TRIVIA CONTEST.

    Overflow Info

The overflow block is 9AM-noon on Sunday in Video 1. Overflow will screen videos that did not make the final contest, with priority given to those entries that were created by editors attending Otakon. Disqualified videos will be pushed to the bottom of the playlist. Videos DQ'd for objectionable content won't be played at all. Troll videos will be played at overflow. Traditionally the playlist is arranged alphabetically-by-creator, and if you approach me during the event and tell me your studio name, I'll bump your video to the top of the list. As of now we do not have sufficient time to screen everyone's entry.

    Creator's Badge Info

Anyone who submitted a video that does not get disqualified is eligible for 3 "creator's passes". These are not Otakon memberships so you still have to buy your badge. These passes allow you to skip the line for the AMV contest (and boy what a line it is) and allows you to sit in the better-than-good seats with two of your friends. TO PICK UP YOUR COOL-KID CARDS: go to AMV Ops (BCC 312) at any of the following times:

    Friday 2:00-5:00pm

    Friday 9:30-11:30pm

    Saturday 11:00am-1:00pm

    Iron Editor

Kiarrens is going up against reigning champ Christopher Brown. The theme is Vampires Suck. Scintilla will be hosting the event. It will be from 6:30-9:30PM in panel 1, wherever that is.

    IRON EDITOR SOURCE LIST:

    Rosario to Vampire 1-5

    Trinity Blood 1-5

    Hellsing Ultimate 5-7

    Vampire Princess Miyu OVA 1-4

    Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

    AMV Awards

AMV Contest winners will be announced/played during Iron Editor. Gundam models ahoy!

THE DEADLINE IS PAST, BUT THE SOUL STILL BURNS

We received 139 "valid" entries this year. A valid entry, is one where we received both the video, AND the form. We received 146 forms total, but 7 videos either never got to me, or never finished uploading (And I don't mean a few seconds on the end. I'm talking 4 seconds worth of video uploaded and then abandoned). Said entry forms were deleted. Also, those of you who sent in a video, won a contest elsewhere, and then sent in a non-winning replacement video, your original entry form was deleted before this final count, so technically more than 139 video were processed. This count includes trolls and DQs.

DQ Video List - People who broke the rules. No creator seating passes offered; low priority on the Overflow playlist.

RavenFlames - TV station logos, english dub

    Jordan Dougherty - subtitles

    Retro Active ent - subtitles

    Jasmine Marie Casey - subtitles

    OMG it's a ninja pro - subtitles

    zibbazabba905 - TV station logos

    MagicFlier - TV logos

Ryan L. Hess - TV logos

Troll Video List - Not permitted in the final contest, but still will receive creator seating passes and screen-time during Overflow.

Video Changelog (AKA: Why don't I get a confirmation e-mail the very minute my entry finished upload?!)

This year, as I did last year, I decided to log all of the changes that I made to submissions. This happens before you get the e-mail saying that your entry "tested fine for playback", meaning that in reality, it tested fine for playback AFTER I did stuff to it. I did this because while I rarely post on the .org anymore, I do lurk the contest forums and there are too many contest coordinators who take the "get video, play video, earn badge" approach to contest management. This is why Otakon doesn't get the "my video looked like crap" posts after the con. That, and hopefully this will explain why your 11PM-Sunday-night e-mails of "OMG DID MY VIDEO WORK FINE?!" went un-replied to :P Just because I had to fix a video, doesn't REALLY mean it's 100% the creator's fault. A lot of it is just because "that's how things are stored nowadays" and they just need some fixinating to play properly on our setup. I'm only listing the entries that needed work done to them.

Otakon is not distributing copies of the contest, or individual videos, so please don't ask :3

  14. I've been working on my entry for a while... and this will be my first Otakon! Woot woot. Question for anyone in the know though... it says studio bumpers/credits are not allowed, but what if they are part of the parody? (i.e. replacing the Dreamworks/Universal/WB/etc logo in a trailer with that of your own studio)

    Rules are up.

    http://www.otakon.com/amvrules.asp

In reference to studio logos, here's the deal:

    1) If you're tacking a studio logo/credits to the beginning or end of your AMV for the sole purpose of advertising yourself, it's gonna get chopped off. The reason for that is because last year we got 8 hours and 45 minutes worth of submissions. We could only fit 2 hours in the contest. We'd prefer to fill those two hours with ANIME MUSIC VIDEOS and not ego-stroking. We make the title cards for you. The audience will know everything they need to know. Also, people get carried away with how long their leader/credits last. I had one video at AUSA 2 years ago that had credits FOR THEIR CREDITS. The less "extra" that crowds the playlist, the more space we have for other entries in the final contest. In Otakon 2008 I was actually able to make room for an entire other video just by trimming black space, credits, logos, etc.

    2) If you're doing a trailer, and the trailer shows a studio logo, and you replace it with your own logo, or even your own name, that's fine. The reason here is the original audio is probably already playing underneath this logo, and it would look really awkward to have black space there. You could put in another scene from your anime, but it's your call. You're more than welcome to parody the placement of the original movie studio logo.

    3) Don't use a real studio logo, IE Dreamworks/Universal etc. In case you haven't turned on the news in the past year, corporate America is looking for every excuse possible to score executive bonus-bucks. The MPAA are the same people who sue children and grandmothers for piracy, and meanwhile enforce copyright laws and methods that prohibit you from playing your legally purchased films as well as the film pirates can. They would have no problem crushing a fan-run, non-profit organization if it meant milking them for a few extra bucks. There are no loopholes that let you legally attribute a copyrighted industry logo to your own work, parody or not. So don't do it. If you re-draw the WB logo in MS Paint, that's fine. if you copy and paste it from the original trailer, expect a phone call.

  15. Hi kids, contest coordinator here.

    Alan, pin this plz kthx!

As was done in previous years, I will only be listing the studios that made the final cut. I will not list their AMVs in the interest of keeping the contest fresh. If the video's creator wishes to disclose which entry that they submitted, I'm perfectly fine with that, but I figure it's best to leave it up to the submitter and not "out" them myself If you wish to know what score your video got at prescreenings, email vboruta@otakon.org with your studio name and the video title.

The following studios have submitted videos that were disqualified from the competition. Disqualified videos will still be shown at overflow, with the exception of ones that were disqualified for inappropriate content as we could not secure a late-night time slot for an overflow screening.

    ------------------------------------------------------

Avalon Blade Works - Major award winner: Sakura-con 2008

    insubstance - Inappropriate content

StriderTol - Use of commercial english dub

Jesmaster - Exceeded the time limit

Legendary 86 Productionz - Visible fansubs

    Vietnhien Production - Visible fansubs

    Ryumikokun - Visible DivX logos

Rehdogg.Com - Not even a reference to anime footage

NightHawk - Major award winner: Fanime 2008

Random Destination Studios - Major award winner: ACen 2008

    Vellure - Major award winner: A-Kon 2008

A quick reminder that "major award winner" only entails those videos that have won first place or "best in show" awards prior to the June 10th deadline. 2nd place doesn't count, nor do honorable mentions. Hopefully next year Otakon will get some more exclusive videos so that we don't have to cut so many great ones

Contest finalists will be able to sit in a special section for the contest screenings, and they do not have to wait in line for any AMV event. Finalists who wish to take advantage of these benefits will need to pick up a special AMV Finalist badge from the info desk at any time during the convention. This is not a substitute for your paid convention admission. When you pick up your badge, you will be given yours, as well as 2 badges that you can give to your friends. Each badge is pre-printed with your name so be sure to have some ID on you. As I have been told, this is different than the previous two years, however the previous two years received significantly fewer entries than we did this year. There is also a high percentage of creators who will be in attendance. As I mention later in this thread, it would be logistically insane of us to rope off 400 seats in a 760 seat venue when the con is expecting 23,000 attendees, and that's not counting staffers gophers and guests. Granted Video 1 seats something like 2,200 people, and we use it twice, but that's still 4,400 seats out of 23,000 attendees at a high-volume event. It's going to be tight as it is, and I still want to give back to the submitters, but I have to draw the line somewhere.

Here is a tentative schedule of AMV related events. I make no claims that it is 100% accurate. I don't have the program descriptions but most are self-explainatory. I believe that "Best of AMVs" showcases all of the previous Otakon winners from the last 15 years.

    Friday Events

AMV Overflow playlists are built in advance, however they are dynamic, so if you're the creator for a specific video that did not make finals, you may walk up to the board-op and request your video to be shown while you're there

    Best of luck!
