  1. There's also places to get takeout. Almost all the hotels will give you menus so that's always an option. If you go to the food court in the mall/shopping center on Light Street I believe, almost everything is closed around 9pm-ish. If you know your room as a fridge, it might be cheaper to bring food like sandwhich fixings and such and go with that. Or, if you have a microwave, I recommend bring paper plates because almost all takeout places give you foil containers and you can't nuke them, but you CAN transfer leftovers to a paper plate and heat them up.
  2. Just to drive a good point home about the line- If you plan on lining up to get your badge before 5pm, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring water or something to keep you hydrated. It is very humid, and even though the line wait time has shortened nicely in previous years with addition of more reg booths, you'll still be outside waiting for a while. /mommylike advice
  3. I love Otakon. Dearly. In all it's large, loud, wondrous glory. I remember standing in line for hours my first Otakon for my badge, just basking in the hugeness of the BCC and I could tell from the vibe of everyone around that Thursday that this con was definitely something great. It was the most exciting/tiring/thrilling/awesome weekend, and every year continues to be the same. Cut to five years later and my third year on staff and I still LOVE this con dearly. I think Otakon has a very good reputation, its widely respected as the largest on the East Coast and pretty much second in the co
  4. I'm sure aside from vehicle of choice, 95% of us will also be getting with the aid of caffeine. ^^
  5. I want to try to find a complete set of Sailor Moon manga (which is starting to become a Holy Grail.....tee hee oh S) and the S series boxset to replace the bery bad bootleg I received for Xmas. If I can find the Miz CD I want as well, that'd be sweet. I might also buy Emma manga. This is all theoretically pending on me having spending money. I have come to the past three Otakon on a budget of $50-140 for the whole weekend which all went to food/water. And it was actually possible to survive the five days I'm there on $50, just really insane budgeting and weeping over th
  6. My jobs usually never minded since I had either accrued the time off, or that I was only actually missing Thurs, Fri, Mon of their work weeks helped. Though I'll be switching jobs any day now so I do have to let them know upfront I'll be out of town. Shouldn't be a problem I anticipate since it was a pre-existing engagement prior to hiring. It seems like a nice company, who will hopefully hire me so I can actually HAVE money this year to spend on things other than fast/quick food.
  7. Thursday...hm...will probably go something like this : - Get up early. (This year 5am). Be generally harpy-ish and probably what a nargle might possibly be. - Oh look! Starbucks! Tamed that nargle! - 80s music vacation soundtrack ahoy! -Leave CT for Baltimore in the Rent-a-Van with my friends and find ways to ignore the bridges we go over to get there. (I'm a gephyraphobe.) - New Jersey rest stop. My kneecaps feel pastede on yay. Will want to go om nom nom on snack food. - Deleware Bridge. Panic ensues. Hope will have fallen asleep beforehand and wake up con
  8. I'm travelling down with my best friend, her husband, his twin sister, her two friends from NYC, our two friends who are bf/gf, the gf's sister. Yep. They're attendees so I don't see them much once we get to the con except for our Eastern Seaboard trek down, every now and then during the con, and our traditional Monday California Pizza Kitchen lunch before leaving for home. Other than that, I spend my entire weekend with the Exhibitions Staff. ^^
  9. We're splitting gas between 7 people in the van so yes, it still sucks cause up here it's $4.26 a gallon right now, but between 7 people isn't so bad. I already paid my share ($120) for van/tolls/gas/parking so I mean, it sucks but it's still doable by splitting costs. We usually fill up before we leave, and then on the way home since it's only a 5-7 hour drive depending on traffic. I'm using probably part of or all of my $300 government stimulus check money for Otakon for food/shopping/emergencies/whatever. Speaking of, don't forget about those stimulus checks if you're eli
  10. My friends and I rent a van and depart Connecticut on Thurs. in the AM, usually we've left like 8 am ish, this year we're shooting for 5 AM so that when we get there we have time to unpack and relax for a second and have lunch before they go off to pre-reg and I go off to do my thing. It's usually anywhere from 5.5 - 7.5 hours depending mostly on Tappanzee Bridge/New Jersey traffic, which is a HUGE reason I wanted to leave at 5 am to avoid all that. This year we made the group decision to compile all 80s music for the drive down. Getting out of the MD tunnel and into that last stretc
  11. Things I need- - Toiletries - Water. LOTS OF FREAKING WATER. I'm not allowed to dehydrate anymore. ^^; - Coffee. Running around all day requires me to be caffeinated from 7 am - at least 11 pm. - Sneakers. Wearing any other shoes would be sabotaging myself for sidewalk kamikaze. - Money. Though, I got to say, I've actually managed to make $50-110 stretch from Thurs - Mon of Otakon. But I'd this year to be the first in four years to NOT have to do that budget from hell. It took a looooooooot of making food stretch. - Cell phone and charger. - The basic working knowle
