  1. I ate there twice during Otakon and both times they were nice. The food was good, the line moved fast, and they weren't too crowded both times. I will probably eat there again next year, if they're still around.
  2. Yes, I saw him. I wouldn't say spitting image, but did look an awful lot like David Tennant. I even made a comment to my girlfriend to that effect; she agreed.
  3. I think a picture of a water taxi or some other boat full of cosplayers would be pretty amusing. But like you said, it would put the costumes at risk. Chances are the pictures would come out better during daylight, too.
  4. I thought it was titled "You Are Not Awake".
  5. I don't believe it has been licensed in the US yet, but there were two groups fansubbing it. One has finished, the other has not. I watched the first five or six episodes of it. I found the premise slightly farfetched, but I still enjoyed watching it.
  6. I will probably be there as a volunteer, and most likely slaving away in the registration department. I live near DC, so I won't be staying at the hotel.

  8. While we're on the subject of an Ota-store, what other kinds of things would people like to see? I was thinking a full set of badges for a year (only to be sold after the con, of course) might interest people, especially if it was packaged nicely...
  9. I could've sworn I heard some music from Naruto after Kosuke Kitajima won the 200m breast stroke final. Did anyone else happen to notice it? It was pretty faint.
  10. On that note, another highlight for me for the con was seeing the number of people who followed the oft-repeated advice to not line up early for pre-reg.
  11. This is probably kind of goofy, but there were really two highlights for me: 1) hearing we pushed more than 8,900 people through pre-reg Thursday night, and we had over 26,000 registrations overall, and 2) seeing the convention center go from completely empty Thursday morning, to being chock full o' people over the weekend, and then back to empty Sunday afternoon

This is what I remember from working in registration: 1 - Vega from Street Fighter II 2 - Otakon mascots in front of a time machine 3 - Otakon mascots having time traveled back to the past 4 - 5 - Kimba ? 6 - 7 - Lucky Star 8 - Rose from Street Fighter Alpha 9 - Ed and Al from Full Metal Alchemist 10 - Gundam 00 11 - Romeo X Juliet 12 - Code Geass
  13. At the risk of incurring the wrath of the off-topic gods, I saw this thread and it made me think of this: http://www.overcompensating.com/posts/20080807.html
  14. If I can't sleep tonight, it's going to be due to sharing a queen-size bed with someone, not because of Otakon over-enthusiasm. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited, but I know I'll be a mess tomorrow if I don't get enough sleep tonight.
  15. To all those who are grammatically impaired: Y'all gonna make me loose my mind, up in hear, up in hear. That is all.
  16. A lot of the issues with criticism just comes down to presentation. For example: "These guests suck, so I'm not going." - This criticism is virtually worthless except for showing that one person has no interest in the guests. There is no attempt to state other preferred guests, and no attempt to understand the processes through which guests are brought to the convention. There is also no attempt to establish a dialog, which results in nothing changing, and no opportunity to make things better. "I really wish we could've had so-and-so as a guest this year. What can be done to try
  17. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=4666523 http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,351462,00.html On first glance, it doesn't look like it made CNN. Her name doesn't show up in Google News.
  18. Your supervisor has someone above them, yes? I suggest that you remind your boss that you put in the request and that you haven't heard anything, and if you still don't get a response, escalate it. I know Otakon is important, but... better you find out now how your employer's support system works, rather than down the road when it comes down to something REALLY important.
  19. Just out of curiosity, what didn't you like about Ghost in the Shell?
  20. You should also keep in mind that you don't want to get magnets near any credit cards or electronic hotel room keys you'll be carrying with you. Exposure to magnets could render these items unreadable.
  21. I dunno, I think I'd get a good laugh out of a shout of "Kage bunshin no jutsu!" followed by a horde of Narutos pouring out from a room or around a corner.
  22. This is just a suggestion, but you might want to plan a Thursday activity for during the day rather than spend all of it waiting in line. Otakon is not going to run out of badges, and there is nothing actually happening on Thursday. I appreciate the social ritual of it all, but all the money spent on fluids consumed while waiting in line could be put towards better things (such as, say, anime, carrot cake, or my favorite, the apple dumpling). Some effort needs to be put into making sure groups don't get too big, but there's no reason you can't group up by arrival time and/or interest, and d
  23. I'd say that from a technical standpoint, the idea was a success. The arena seemed to be somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 full, and I'm sure that relieved a lot of crowd control pressure on the BCC. I had one of the seats on the side, and I could see the stage itself, along with the video on the two screens on the side of the stage. I think the video crew did a great job of choosing which camera to display and when. Let me preface the next bit with this statement: I have a lot of respect for anyone who can work up the nerve to get on stage and perform in front of an audience, especially o
  24. All I have to say is: If you are a girl, and you set your girlfriend up with a guy you like, and things work out for them... don't expect me to cry because you engineered your own misery. So no tissues were used during KGNE or Saikano. But damn, that episode five of Air (TV) was a tearjerker, even with the fansub tissue warning up front.
