9 Weeks and Counting!
Nooooooooooooooooooo ;____;
-
I plan on cosplaying as a Vault 101 Dweller and my husband will be The Mysterious Stranger - our baby will be with us one day of the con and he will be cosplaying as a 10 month old Baby Nannerpus.
-
If this were to happen, it would likely be the Holiday ballroom, as it is in a separate building - away from any guest rooms by a good margin.
I think it is safe to say that noise from the dance itself would not affect any other Otakon programming or any guests staying in the hotel.
Yup, that's what I was saying earlier -- the one buried in the main hotel is bigger, but more likely to have issues. The one in the in-between building is almost ideal, but until you and I touched base this week, I was under the impression it had been booked by someone else.
Sound baffling is possible with sufficient pipe-and-drape.

I fly from Northern Ohio every year, I save up a bit to go- you have to spend SOME money to stimulate the economy, and nowhere needs it more than Baltimore! lol...
I am going!!
Edit: Also, if Aramark goes, that WOULD BE FINE with me!! Their food is expensive and low quality. They don't even offer anything Nippon-related there (unless Last year was different, as I wasn't among attendance)...
{mbmblll.. keeping vendors from selling pocky....mmblee}

I'm actually in a pretty good place, financially speaking. My job is stable, I bought a house I can afford, and I don't carry any large amounts of credit card debt. I have, however, already invested a lot of time and money into my AA table, so I'll be there come hell or high water.
(I did, however, hear a rumor of a rumor that Aramark is going out of business - granted, absolutely no news stories have been posted on the interwebs, but I wonder what that would mean for the con? Source: co-worker's aunt-in-law is an accountant for Aramark; so any information I know is from the Smalltimore grapevine)
I don't see it happening, honestly.

I am going to be a Vault 101 Dweller and my husband The Mysterious Stranger.
-
It could be something like what happened with Tropic Thunder. It being held at the Charles or the Landmark and done as a preview. A Harry Potter preview shouldn't disrupt the pre-convention things.

But one has to wonder why can't Otakon just "negotiate" things "slower" or something--obviously not every single hotel that will have a con block announced their rates right at the con (Day's Inn for example).
Part of the problem with negotiating things slower is that the hotels will continue to allow room reservations during our negotiations. This means that the number of rooms available for us to contract a lower rate for gets smaller. For example if we don't have nearby hotels like the Days Inn contracted and signed before we release the next Otakon's dates, it will likely end up sold out just as quickly, but now everyone is paying more. Good for the hotels, not so good for our members.
-
Cheaper rate because a reservation can always be canceled unless you book someplace like the hotel website where they offer discounted packages for paying in advance. With the new system in place a reservation costs you nothing but your credit card number (must have an expiration date beyond the con) and the time to make it. My husband and I waited to long last year so missed out on reservations and I wish we hadn't - it was okay traveling from home but I had to get up a lot earlier than normal because of my pregnancy. The good thing about not staying in a hotel is we saved money on kenneling our dogs. The con is like a mini vacation for us so we budget for it all year.
-
Im coming from Ireland so I usually arrive on Thurs and leave on the Monday but I cant seem to find hotels that book for those dates. Is everything sold out already? This cant be up much more than a week already I cant believe that hotels are already booked out If I try on the exact dates I only get a choice of 3 hotels to choose from.
While I like the idea wouldnt it have been a bit better to wait until all hotels were signed up before starting this so people actually knew what was going to be available. Think i will just have to try getting in touch directly with the hotels
-
there has to be a regular movie theater somewhere around the inner harbor thats walking distance.........
-
From what we've heard, the Days Inn con rate sold out in less than 15 minutes.
-
Working on the con all year round prevents me from dwelling on post con depression lol.

I couldn't edit to add the links, but these are the ones I will probably do, I usually buy my tickets in advance for White Marsh, and now that they put a Coldstone Creamery in right next door I'm all over it.
Easpoint: Right up Eastern Avenue about 15 minutes http://www.fandango.com/regaleastpointmovi...dvs/theaterpage
and
White Marsh: Right up 95 about 15 minutes http://www.fandango.com/amcloewswhitemarsh...ete/theaterpage
this is right near my house, but my husband hates the Drive-In
Bengies: Right up Eastern Avenue about 30 minutes http://www.fandango.com/bengiesdriveinthea...dvg/theaterpage

this looks like a small independent theater. they might not show HP there.
there's a Imax theater on Light St & Key Hwy... but i dunno how far from the convention center that is
-
Do you think waiting for some people to drop their Days Inn hotel room is feasable?
-
I didn't stay in a hotel for this year but last year (2007):
Place I stayed: Sheraton (formerly Wyndham)
Number of people in room: 2
Hotel Staff: Were great, they helped us out whenever we needed something.
Walk to the con center: 5 minutes
The Good:
-The beds were comfy
-They brought champagne to my room while I read Harry Potter book.
-Brought me orange juice when I was sick, I got a cold on the second day and I was miserable.
-Gave me good turn down service, cleaned the room daily with extra towels and soap.
-TVs rocked.
The Bad:
-The walls are paper thin, there was a group who was having a reunion there on the same floor and they decided it was best to talk loud back and forth across the hall from one another at 3am. They were not Otaku, lol - they were some older women who obviously went out on the town and couldn't control themselves.
-Odd but the pillows smelled like feet - requested different pillow and it smelled like feet too! I think the batch of laundry was bad and they were left in the wash too long.
-Parking - valet parking didn't have our car ready at any time when we called down in advance and there were so many cars pulled up we had to wait 30-40 minutes each time to get our car from being wedged in the middle.

Couldn't edit my post. The harbor does have a movie theater...
Landmark's Harbor East Cinema
645 President St., Baltimore, MD, USA - (410) 244-6636
http://www.landmarktheatres.com/market/Bal.../HarborEast.htm
Hopefully HP will be there, lol - they don't offer online ticketing yet. They do however rent out the theater, I doubt they would rent it out on opening night though and I don't think they do it for new releases.
-
Didn't they also Push back The Harry Potter Movie To The 17th Of July just an idea.
Two...oh my god I didn't not realize that last night when I found out the movie release date was changed. Why, why must my two loves, Harry Potter midnight releases and Otakon always seem to conflict so in recent years. Thank god it's 12am Friday though because that means that as long as I drive to Otakon or the IMAX shows it, I can still go. I nearly had a heart attack again like when I found out about Book 7 interfering with Otakon last year. Well, it seems that my Thursday costume for next year has already been confirmed to be my Slytherin Quidditch uniform.
-
The thing is guys it shows you reservations depending on how many people are in your room and what days you are staying. Try a multitude of different things to see if you can get different days, rates and hotels. Some hotels like Days Inn do not charge for extra people whereas some do, so the prices change depending on that variable.
I got a room at Days Inn yesterday (2 people) and emailed the email on the front page of the PassKey site to cancel my previous registration at the Radisson and they emailed me today with confirmation that my registration at the Radisson was canceled.
Not all hotels have rooms available on all days for the con rate from what I gathered looking at it and it changes real time when people cancel reservations and book rooms.

White Marsh mall? that PF Chiang's has been there for awhile now. and there's also one in North Virgina, a few blocks from the ballston metro stop.
but I totally didnt know there was one in the inner harbor. i was looking for a place to have dinner sunday night after the con. so it's either there or cheesecake factory
-
and another point that just popped into my head...... it would be nice to have a PF Chiang's in the inner harbor. i love their food
There's a PF Chang's located at 600 E Pratt St.

I'm going with my husband of course so he can carry my bags
