I don't recall seeing a rule against having original animation. A couple of years ago I remember a couple of great videos by (Suberunk)sp? that had original animation. "Wizard of Osaka" and "Wedding Bells" both made it to the finals. They did have anime characters in them, but it looked like the backgrounds done with Flash. I would also like to see a category for original works, but you need to have enough to fill the category or it isn't much of a contest. So the video was put with the other AMVs in the category that it fit best. It's not like it has an unfair advantage, as it didn't win any awards.
As for Rehdogg, that was way off. I don't think that guy knows what anime is to begin with, look at his vid on YouTube he called it an Animated Music Video.
I think this sums up my reaction to that video: and then...

Was Scuma Guy your bus driver in disguise?

I'm staying there next year, and I WANT a room on the stadium side as high up as possible. If there is a game Thursday night I might actually watch a game if I get a view of the field.

Ack! Private profile means I cannot see! xD
Here, I put up to Photobucket. http://s292.photobucket.com/albums/mm28/Sh...kuAndTemari.jpg

It usually hits me when I get in my car to drive home Sunday. I drive past the BCC on my way back to I-95 as if to make sure it's REALLY over. Sitting in traffic for a couple of hours doesn't help either, although it's fun to flash your con badge to cars full of other con goers. When I get home and unpacked I go through my pictures and make a slideshow out of them.
I also do what some suggest here by watching anime and visiting the BBS often. In the end PCD is like an ice cream headache, it hurts now but it won't last for long. -
Tokyo. Gore. Police.
Awesomeness.

Since there's so many hotels nearby Otakon, I thought it'd be helpful if there was a thread about what you thought of them. It'll be nice for comparison and deciding on hotels for next year. SO...
Place I stayed: Brookshire Suites
Number of people in room: 9
Bathroom steams up REAL bad when you shower...you almost can't breathe and everything gets damp.It makes sense everything would get damp if you have 9 people taking showers. XD

I think they have a garage under the hotel, the hole they dug before building the hotel was pretty deep. I had a room in the Marriott with a view of the construction site when they started in 2006.

I watched Voltron as a kid before I knew what anime was. "Mega Thrusters a go!"... To panel 3

When I was in high school I had a friend who told me about Otakon. At the time I was a very casual anime fan, so the idea of going to a convention intimidated us. Years later it just popped back into my head, maybe playing Metal Gear Solid helped a little. So early 2005 I made plans to go to my first convention. By that time I wasn't talking to the friend who first told me about Otakon, so I was flying solo into uncharted territory. It was better than ten Superbowls! It was Otakon 2005 that introduced me to the AMV contest. I was so impressed by the creativity of the finalists that I decided to make my own, submitting my first AMV for Otakon 2006. I've been hooked ever since. It's like Christmas in the summer, except all the presents are for me! I'll actually be giving cosplaying a try this year for the first time. So if you see Jin from Samurai Champloo sitting in an AMV panel it might be me.

if anyone's having any hotel parties at the marriot that would be rad since it's only gonna be me and my friend :3

It's such an easy dance, anybody can do it. That'll make it easy to get a big group together.

I don't feel that there's less good videos as much as there is more bad videos. Nowadays anybody with Windows Movie Maker and an internet connection to download low quality video makes an AMV. The good editors are still around and using the technology available to improve the quality of the final product. Doki Doki is a great example, I loved There Is Life Outside Your Apartment from 2006.

As Alabaster said and I agree it is up to the parents to enforce rules for their children. Parents who will not put forth the effort to ensure that their children obeys the laws and rules within their house have no business being parents. Following the rules and laws are things that parents should teach their kids and it is not the role of the state to teach kids right and wrong.

Interesting article. That's some strict curfew law, When they bring in kids playing ball in the backyard it seems more like kidnapping. Plus I never got the point of punishing the parents instead of their kids. That kids gonna get such a beating when dad gets out of jail.
If you have a child under the age of legal majority, he or she is your responsibility, period. That is why you punish the parents for letting the kids wander at night.

Events: Video Gaming
This was posted a couple days ago on the front page. I don't see DOA 4 tourney, but it could be there just to play.

Will there be reserved seating at the contest for submitters of videos attending the con like in past years?

That explains a lot. Didn't know that thing can still move
It takes a relatively large crew to sail a ship like the constitution, so it rarely ever moves. If they don't have the manpower, they might just tow it with tugs (carefully).

Man, how did I miss that in yesterday's paper? Probably went "battleship?! Boring! Where is my muffin at. Nom nom nom nom nom" at 7am or whenever I was reading the paper. =_=The Aug. 9 commissioning will be a big day for the crew and its host, the port of Baltimore. The Sterett will berth at the port's cruise ship terminal next to the historic backdrop of the USS Constellation, which will be transported from its usual Inner Harbor mooring for the ceremony.
Also next to the historic backdrop of a cardboard box Gundam and a sexy Moogle!

I've never cosplayed before, but if I can get my stuff together I would like to try Jin from Samurai Champloo. It seems pretty easy for a beginner, plus I already have long hair and wear glasses. I also have a Samurai Champloo AMV in the contest (finals I hope). I already picked up sewing patterns, now all I have to do is borrow my Mom's sewing machine.

If the costume can't fit through the door, I wouldn't bring it inside. It would just clog up the hallways. Escalators would be tricky too.

Traveling solo! Anime is not a particular interest in my friends and unfortunately my friend from work had to back out!
Baltimore City to launch a shuttle service in July 2009.

I wonder how much this will effect the prices of parking garages. They're not that cheap to begin with.
