  1. Oh man, this is the last event in the Meyerhoff before my school's commencement ceremony the following Monday, heh.
  2. From what I've seen, our lines are managed as well as can be (in most cases - of course, there will always be the one or two Horror Lines every year) with the resources we have available. There are not enough staffers or gofers for us to station someone at every potential linespace all day, shooing the campers away - doing so keeps us from being able to support other, more urgent areas of the con. We do try to shoo them if we can, and we encourage people not to line up early. Staffers and/or gofers are on-hand for room-loading prior to an event, but they simply cannot be there for the entir
  3. Otakon has always operated under the philosophy that any member of the corporation can attend any of the weekend's events. From time to time, capacity limits of certain spaces have forced us to consider the aforementioned badge-stickering (I'm thinking of the L'arc and other concerts with large draws), but even then everyone who wanted to was able to attend. We strongly discourage you from lining up hours in advance, because we want you to have fun while you're at the con (unless line-standing is your thing, in which case ). Pre-registering for an event would limit this philosophy qu
  4. Well, "when it's ready" doesn't necessarily mean "not immediate." It could mean soon. But we don't sit on or hide these things from you all - when it's done, it gets put up. Announcements will be made on the website and (usually) also here on the BBS. So keep an eye out if there's something you're super interested in, and you won't miss it.
  5. I'm going to merge this into your other thread, since they're essentially the same topic.
  6. People I've talked to who like the show have called it Axis Powers Hetalia, so you might have more luck searching that way. It's one of my friend's new favorites.
  7. We'll be in touch with someone from the SpecOps department and let you know, Chioki. As a reminder to folks posting here on the BBS, please do not answer questions related to the weapons or other policies unless you're a staffer who knows the answer. Thanks!
  8. I saw this one elsewhere: "The left eye only sees the past; the right eye knows kung fu jeet kun do."
  9. Reining this one back onto topic (finding old anime series on DVD). If it goes offtopic again, I'll lock it.
  10. I would have to agree.......................... A message from the chairman about 2009, even little bitty bit of guest info would be nice. When it's ready, it'll be announced.
  11. Keanu Reeves as Spike: DO NOT WANT Keanu Reeves as prop for related story: Still do not want, but slightly less. Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite anime of all time, and I'd argue that it's somewhere on everyone's Top 10 list. So much of what makes Cowboy Bebop so memorable (the space setting, Spike's incredible turn of speed and crazy hair, Jet's arm, the ships themselves) can only truly be carried out in an animated or a still (manga) format. I'm terrified that this landmark series, which brought so many people under the 'anime fan' umbrella in the late 90s, will be butchered an
  12. Since this is not related to Otakon 2009, I'm moving it.
  13. When it's ready, it'll be announced.
  14. Have you tried contacting the relevant Japanese government agencies, or someone from JET? While we're all fans of J-culture, the bureaucratic stuff is a little hairy even for the best of us, and just like over here, the best bet for an accurate answer would be the source. Also, everyone I know who's dealt with the JET program folks says that they're very pleasant, and happy to answer questions. You might also try contacting the Japanese Embassy in DC. Good luck!
  15. It's something we'll consider; however, this topic was meant to address something else. Unless you have something to add to the discussion which was relevant to the original topic (fraudulent memberships being sold at Otakon 2008), please don't dredge up these old topics. Thanks!
  16. Titans have as good of a defense as Baltimore with a better quarterback. I think the Titans are a very tough game for us like they were in October. They stole the game in October on a botched call from the officials. We're playing much better football now, and it's possible that two of their star defensive players (Haynesworth, and another one) won't be playing on Saturday. I think we can do it.
  17. Now it remains to smush the Titans. ....We can do it! \o/
  18. You might be able to pick up a VCR (or at least a VCR/DVD combo) at Best Buy inexpensively, to watch your VHS shows. Macross unfortunately probably won't ever be available on DVD (the old ones, I mean), except as Robotech. If you can find your shows on Amazon for a good price, that'd be a good place to get caught up. Also, it can't hurt to scrounge all the DVD tables in convention dealers rooms - you never know when you'll stumble on that hidden gem.
  19. Before I answer your question, I'd like to clarify that in addition to being a moderator, he's the Dept Head of the HD Theater and so is directly involved in the situation. Many other members of our moderating team are involved in other areas of the convention. We are looking into how we can improve the subtitle visibility, and some of your suggestions have been brought up as possible solutions in meetings. There have also been discussions about utilizing some of the space in the Hilton, or otherwise reorganizing some of the video rooms into higher-ceilinged spaces. Whether any or all
  20. Topic, please. (Finding old series on DVD)
  21. Hopefully the red-hot Chargers knock the Colts out, and take their show on the road to Pittsburgh to destroy the Roethlisberger-less Steelers. The Ravens have mowed Miami down already once this season; time to do it again. We can make it. We've not been this fired-up about ourselves in a long, long time. \o\
  22. I got a parrot for Christmas. His name is Archimedes. I also got a sweater, a necklace, giftcards to Borders and Best Buy, and a DS Lite with Mariokart, Final Fantasy III, and FFIV. A fairly modest haul, but then, I didn't need much, either. Merry Christmas, everyone!
