  1. It was good to finally be able to see them. So out of curiosity, for those of us who couldn't catch it because we lived out in the middle of nowhere (such as Metro-DC,) just how tight around Baltimore was the distribution?
  2. Well, not to get ridden-out on a rail by the listophiles, but my only to-do item of consequence is now complete: acquire luggage that isn't falling apart (packing it doesn't count.) *check*
  3. From what I've seen, when in doubt, expect there to be reading involved.
  4. The only problem with that there are still titles released unto the wild in *hushed tones* full frame format. *haunted house scream* So unless you limited yourself for scheduling by sticking all the 4:3 in one room(s) and all the widescreen in (an)others, you would need to move the projectors up and down between titles. Not a pretty task considering the equipment in on carts instead of hydraulic ceiling mounts, not something they would want staffers or gofers to be liable for doing, and not the best use of the a/v-tech group's time running around between showings.
  5. Agreed, though with reduced protection (granted it is practically the same if actually a branded check-card,) less favorable authorization processes, and because it serves as a direct tie with my back account, I prefer credit cards always paid in full over their debit cousins. If a vendor tries increasing the price, ask them who their merchant account is with and if it violates their contract. Most banks forbid this practice a number of years back to remove the apparent-price-to-consumer barrier to increase usage. I have heard that it is still prevalent in other parts of the country and
  6. No cosplay, and first alarms will likely be 1-1.5 hours in advance to give time for prep, meal, and not waking up ... otherwise sounds like a good plan.
  7. Work work hungry work work study ... I can always sleep in late-October.
  8. Light Rail lots allow for unlimited (or at least for our purposes) parking without towing cars that stick around too far past the last train? Really?
  9. And .....? Timing worked great for me, but not for others, so will be heading up alone (unless I get a slug) again this year.
  10. Well, we still have lines ... just much shorter than gen-pop. As to con event lines, I usually talk to the fellow condemned souls nearby and/or drift off into a light nap depending on time.
  11. I feel great shame ... actually had to pass on a question or two because no answers came to me.
  12. you can park in some hotel parking lots, like the days inn i believe. i cant remember the price off the top of my head but i think its between $10-$20 for all day. As the hotels go, so goes their parking. I would also guess requiring a bed to herself would limit the usual roommate shopping choices.
  13. You may also want to check out the (slightly aged) original post for this topic here /index.php?showtopic=13074" target="_blank">http://board.otakon.com/index.php?showtopic=13074
  14. That is very much not something you want. Rooms open to the public are charged current (almost certainly Rack) rates. Keep an eye on the rooming forum and watch for block drops or folks looking to transfer their room at whatever lower rate they locked at.
  15. Well, I guess we could always setting for asking him to come back again (and as many other times in the future as he would like. )
  16. Personal feelings aside, not sure if I would agree entirely considering Death Note got a nudge-of-death scheduling wise. Bring on the UMDX badges. *deep sighs at himself*
  17. That sound like a fun option, if for no other reason that all the run-around given by hotel agents who already think that's how everything is done.
  18. Official departure from work is 5-5:30 on Thursday but mostly depends on when my slug shows up (pity there are no HOV lanes between DC & Baltimore) so we can get up there, check in, and hit pre-reg/gofer-meet. First alarm Fri-Sun is in the 7:30-45 area after a nice long 5 hour rest.
  19. I knew there was a missed memo somewhere. The room & food are requirements, and there usually isn't anything in the dealer's room I (A) am interested in and/or ( cannot find elsewhere for much cheaper, so con really hasn't been a problem with budgeting ... it's the regular semi-annuals I need to get a better handle on.
  20. Premiers. I love the chance to take a chunk of Saturday afternoon, preview 8-10+ shows coming out in the next months to year, and see if there is any hope of not ending up with them all in my collection one day.
  21. There are already two Dunkin Donuts a couple blocks North to either side of the BCC (one on S Howard & E Baltimore and one at Light & W Lombard.) The Taco Bell is a few blocks North at Charles & E Baltimore.
  22. Yeah, but we can dream. Darn, guess I need to make a more concerted effort on Sundays.
  23. Lousy edit window and browsing icons too close together ... this should read "5% going to 7.5%"
  24. mmmm ... If I wasn't checking in earlier than most this might be enough to make me consider keeping the fallback reservation longer. Golly, and here I thought the easiest way to absorb new hotel occupancy was to be open during Otakon. NOTE - Since this thread's title is as appropriate as any new one I could start: Just a word of planning for you out-of-staters that might not hear about this until closer in, but Maryland has passed some lovely little tax increases effective next year. The two you will need to keep in mind are 1% increase in general sales tax (now 5% going t
  25. Mostly because it is jusssst off the edge of the map, and (as Sam mentioned a while back) they usually forget to negotiate rates there. I will eventually have to get around to figuring out how to transfer rooms there, as it was my original pick before some of the better con rate blocks opened, and the standard rates are now higher than my reservation ... unless decent rates are announced and I can switch into that block to gain a cheap breakfast in the deal.
