The Otakon 2019 Guest Request Thread

I maybe a little late in saying so, but I would like to say that I'm quite happy to see Erika Harlcher, Jason Liebrecht, and Kari Walgren coming. Elizabeth Maxwell is a solid choice, too, even if I don't have much interest in meeting her for the time being. I hope a past guest who hasn't been there in a long time can be invited. I have said it many times already, but if there's one past guest who truly deserves to be brought back, it's Monica Rial. And while I am pleased with the choices in guests so far (on the dub actors side of things, anyway), depending what other dub actors will be announced and invited, I may just give up on making guest requests ever again. I'm sorry, but as time has gone by, I've been gradually losing faith that certain guests that me, and other folks as well have often requested for will ever be brought back. Admittedly, half the time I say to myself "they'll never bring *insert past guest's name* back", no matter how many requests we make. I can't even feel all that optimistic to believe the old "there's always next year". While patience is a virtue, there's also a fact about patience people take for granted too often: IT'S NEVER LIMITLESS. But of course, that's solely my own fault for getting my hopes up every time I make requests on here. Despite what I've just said though, I do hope the staff will consider bringing Monica back for this year. I'll try and keep my fingers crossed and hope that this year can make it possible for her to be invited, but should it end up having her be put off for another year, I'll tip my hat in defeat, and peacefully walk away from future guest request threads.

Guys, let's drop the topic entirely. You're all getting toxic with one another. And nobody likes to get toxic with anyone. I know I certainly don't.

No offense, but asking for Vic to be invited is in pretty bad and pour taste right now. Given the controversy surrounding him. It's gotten so big that various different cons have canceling his appearances left and right, and he's also lost a couple of his own voice roles. He's been fired from being in the cast of RWBY, and the folks at Rooster Teeth have terminated their relationship with him. There's been so much piling up against him, that honestly, this will likely force him into early retirement. Especially since many have also said that there are also times where he can behave like a total diva. While I am somebody that has met Vic a couple of times, and had a positive experience each time I had, with all the many things that have piled up against him, I honestly support the man anymore.

What if we had some other former Power Ranger actors as guests? Like Austin St. John, David Yost, Walter Emanuel Jones, and Amy Jo Johnson? (Original red, blue, black, and pink rangers respectively) Because if Otakon has hosted former ranger actors like Johnny Yong Bosch and Jason David Frank, then why not? And while on this topic, what if we had some guests from Japan who are heavily involved in Tokusatsu works? For those that don't know, Tokusatsu are live action tv and movies that have a heavy use in practical effects. Super Sentai (The source material for Power Rangers) is a primary example. Other than former ranger actors from our own country in the US, maybe the staff could at some point in time get in touch with an actor who worked on any previous Super Sentai series. Although given that tokusatsu is live action, getting someone who has worked on any kind of show of that medium would have to be more difficult to get in touch with than a popular seiyuu. And does anyone remember the show VR Troopers? One of the actors on that show, Brad Hawkins was one of the troopers, and later in his life and career would do some voice acting. Like recently, he's been playing the titular Goblin Slayer. Also, I wonder if acting in a tokusatsu show, and then moving on to voice acting is a thing over in Japan, too. Since it was the case here in America with JYB, Walter, and Brad.

Since one of Otakon's missions is to spread knowledge about east Asian culture beyond anime, what if we had a guest or two that was involved with a different style of animation? Like stop-motion. It's kind of to come mind recently that stop-motion animation isn't really an animation style you hear about coming from Japan. Like what if there could be a guest who was involved with stop-motion? Like anyone who's worked on the holiday specials released by Rankin/Bass? Not too many people know about this but the animation for practically every stop-motion tv holiday special released by Rankin/Bass (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Little Drummer Boy, Santa Claus is comin' to Town, etc.) WERE ALL ANIMATED IN JAPAN. That's just an example, of course, and I was just thinking that having someone who was involved with stop-motion would be a nice guest to have, and we could all learn how in any sort of stop-motion production, how the many figures and puppets are made, and setting the frames to the flow naturally in every little shot. Unless if it's already been done before, what if we could have a guest whose works involve stop-motion animation?

Indeed, regarding Steve Blum. Especially since he's one of those guests that the staff haven't had for years (the last time he was a guest at Otakon was 2007). It's the same case with some other guests like Monica Rial, Jamie Marchi, Chuck Huber, and at least a dozen others. I know I've spoken about this many times, but isn't there anyone on the staff who actually would like to see folks like Steve, Monica, and Jamie come back? Are they even aware of how long it's been since they've been guests at Otakon? I'm sorry, but it's just very annoying and frustrating how it tends to take the staff forever to come around to have certain past guests to come back. Even if there are some good, and justifiable reasons, it still doesn't change the fact that they've put off bringing certain guests back for too long. Despite my complaints, though, I do hope that at least someday the staff will come around to having Steve, Monica, and Jamie come back. And just about any other previous guest that they haven't had for so long. Where's the love for those people?

    Guest Request: 2015

Now that the schedule has been released, I have a pretty good idea of what I would like to do as far as both autograph sessions, premieres, and panels go. Though I do have one little query that I wanted to ask- Will there be any autograph sessions for Chris and Sean? I am aware that all things in the schedule are indeed subject to change between now, and even during the actual event, but Sean and Chris will still autograph sessions like every guests, right? Any answer that any staff member can give will be much appreciated!

I'm VERY happy to see Bryce Papenbrook is coming! And let me to all one reason why: I am one of the co-creators and co-admins of his Facebook fan club the Aincrad Cadet Corp.! And yes, it was created with both the permission, and blessing of Bryce himself! Here are the links to the group, and page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/539772002799763/ https://www.facebook.com/aincradcadetcorp I really hope I'll get to meet him next month, along with many others, so Jim- You and your team have done good this year!

    Guest Request: 2015

I would like to make the same suggestion that SteveUzumaki, and Dostovei said about using the Hyatt Ballroom again, like last year. I went to that area last year for Wendee Lee's Friday session, and it worked out REALLY well. And seeing that Romi Park is a very popular Seiyuu, it does make sense to have one of her sessions take place in that area, if not all of them. And also, assuming that you guys are going to use the Hyatt area again, I would strongly recommend having at least one of Travis and Laura's session take place there, given how big name of guests they are. And considering how popular Mr. Tatum is, maybe have one of his sessions take place there, too. Perhaps even Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat, too.

Lauren Landa is a very solid choice to have for a guest. She's great as Kasumi on the Dead or Alive games, Leia on Tales of Xillia, Annie Lockhart on Attack on Titan, and Kyouko on Madoka Magica. As for the other 2 dub actors, I'm hoping one of them is Bryce Papenbrook! But whoever it is, is okay with me, depending on who they might be.

A voice actor known more for his/her video game work until recently? I'm going to make a guess, and say that it's Bryce Papenbrook. He has done a lot of work on video games, but has been doing a lot more anime in recent years. Particularly with series like Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, and Blue Exorcist.

If Chris and Sean are coming on behalf of Funimation, then there's gotta be some promotion going on. And it's more than likely that new DBZ movie coming out.

Since we've gotten quite a few Aldnoah.Zero folks, I wonder it will be possible to bring back Gen Urobuchi for this year. I think it's very unlikely, but it would be real cool if he got invited to join the Aldnoah folks that got invited, too.

    Guest Request: 2015

Wouldn't surprise me if Greg was to be a guest there, too. If his group was invited to the Matsuri, then I think it would also confirm him for the con, as well. At least as far as I think.

    Guest Request: 2015

Seeing that Cherami Leigh got invited to Anime Expo this year, I guess it pretty much scratches off any possible chance of seeing her as a guest at Otakon this year. And seeing that they're also bringing in Amanda Miller, Cristina Vee, and Sandy Fox there, I imagine that there's going to be some Sailor Moon stuff going on, just like last year when they were revealed to be the new cast of Viz Media's dub. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but when a guest is invited to one con for a specific promotion, it can't overlap with another con that occurs about 2-3 weeks later, like with Otakon? Anyways, I'm not really complaining. Since I already got to meet Cherami at Katsucon back in February. And I'm really anticipating who the other 5 dub actors are going to be. Fingers crossed one of them is Bryce Papenbrook!

I think it all depends on Aniplex's end. Last year, when they were promoting the Kill la Kill dub, you had to buy volume 1 of the series to get a ticket for the autograph session. We'll all know more closer to the time when they say of what exclusive promotions they'll have. Personally, I'd like to see some promotion for the Sword Art Online 2 dub. But like I said- We'll all know closer to the time, and see what both Otakon, and the folks at Aniplex says.

It's always understandable, when a voice actress has a baby, and they must prioritize taking care of them. I'm sure one of these days, we'll have Colleen come back. She's also been busy behind the scenes with the FUNimation office, too, as she is also the special features manager. As for Mr. Tatum coming, I'll take it. Personally, I'm not too big a fan of his, but he's most definitely a great, and talented voice actor. If I'm able to meet him, I'll have him sign Attack on Titan, and Steins;Gate.

Some time in the future, could it be possible to have Sir George R. R. Martin come to Otakon? For those that don't know, he' the author of the epic fantasy novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire", which was adapted in the ever popular and known TV series some know and love- Game of Thrones. I've heard and read that he often attends sci-fic and even comics conventions, so does anyone in the staff think he'd be willing to an anime con like Otakon? Some fantasy elements we see some anime are also found in his some of his books, and the TV series itself. Just wondering, though.

Mr. Vowles, sir- You just made my day by telling us that Mr. and Mrs. Willingham are coming this year!

If I may ask, sir- while it is severely challenging to bring in mangakas, is it similarly difficult for light novel authors? Like when you guys brought in Mr. Reki Kawahara of Sword Art Online and Accel World, was it tough to bring him like it was for any mangaka on your "wish list"?

    Guest Request: 2015

Since about a month has gone by now, does anyone think that we'll have our first batch of guests announced before pre-registration opens? I just think that if we get a guest announcement or 2 prior to opening pre-registration, it would give people plenty of time to decide whether or not they want to attend this year. Now for me, I'm attending regardless of who Otakon invites this year, but all the same, getting to meet certain people whose work I admire is something very meaningful to me, as is with others. I go to cons like Otakon for 2 different reasons- Just for and my best friend to hang out with our fellows anime fans, nerds, and geeks. And the other half is getting to meet the people who voiced the characters I really like, or in some cases, have played the songs I listen to, and have created the media behind the scenes. Just saying is all. But this all just a question/suggestion.

Hope you don't mind my asking Mr. Alabaster, but how many musical guests do you usually invite each year? Usually about 2 or 3? Anyways, assuming that we'll get our first guest announcements this month, or the next, I have noticed from last year, that whenever Otakon announces a guest, it would usually be on either a Monday, or a Wednesday. Does anyone know if that's the announcement pattern has been going? Can someone please correct me, if I'm wrong? And also, I'd like to add some new additions to the list of people I'd like to see be invited this year. Aside from the main ones I've requested, like Bryce Papenbrook, Cherami Leigh, Todd Haberkorn, and Brittney Karbowski, There are a few more people I didn't list, and would like to add: Dub Actors -Steve Blum -Ian Sinclair -Austin Tindle -Felicia Angelle -Kira Buckland -Karen Strassman -Andrew Love -Emily Neves -Eric Vale -Chuck Huber -Christopher Sabat -Tyson Rinehart -Shelley Calene-Black -Spike Spencer -Maryke Hendriske (She was freakin' Revy on Black Lagoon!) -Trina Nishimura -Lauren Landa -Patrick Seitz -Yuri Lowenthal -Tara Platt Musical Acts -FripSide (I'd love to hear "Only my Railgun" live!) -Luna Haruna (Her song "Overfly" being the 2nd ending to season 1 of Sword Art Online) -Joe Inoue -Nightmare The people, and groups I've just listed are all new additions to my list of guest requests I have made prior to this post. And just like certain people from the list I made, the names typed in bold are the ones I'd like to see the most, and would strongly consider inviting. Thank you!
