The manga and anime industries owe quite the debt to this guy. May he rest in peace.

Some movie/tv stars scheduled to attend (guess I should say that schedules are subject to change) are:
Star Wars
Breaking Bad
Daredevil, Echo
Smallville
Josie & the Pussycats
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
I see a bunch of shows, but no stars. Could you fix that, please?

I'm glad I remembered to get pictures of some of them. These were from 2009 when Otakon was auctioning the remaining standees off.

Welp...I tried to view those images in my browser, but they got blocked by my antivirus program because of "riskware".

I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct subfolder or not, but in any case, I'm afraid I've got some bad news: As of now, Facebook no longer allows non-members to view any of its pages. including the one for Otakon. Up until today, anyone who logged onto any Facebook page would see this pop-up window that said "Connect with [insert name here] on Facebook" which would give members a chance to log in as well as prospective members a chance to create a new account. It used to be if you were a non-member (like yours truly) and wanted to view any Facebook page's posts, all you had to do was click on the X in the upper-right corner of this pop-up window; it would disappear immediately and then -- happy viewing!
But as of today, that pop-up window no longer has that X to click on; the only way to get rid of that pop-up so you can view the posts is to either log on or join. And I'm still VERY reluctant to join. Ugh.

And now my badge is officially activated! See you all in a few weeks!

the activation page doesn't want to recognize my badge numbers
Yeah, I'm having that problem too. Here's hoping the powers that be can fix this ASAP.

$17 for pizza that wasn't even any good? 😲
'Fraid so. There was very little pepperoni, the cheese and tomato sauce were stretched out rather thinly, and the crust tasted like cardboard. Bleah.

I don't usually buy con food but on Saturday last year I didn't dare leave the building due to the lines and risk being stuck outside so I ended up eating a $15 sandwich lol. It was good at least.
Same here, only I had to settle for a $17 pizza, and that wasn't even any good.

I made my Amtrak reservation this past February. I've taken Amtrak to Otakon almost every time I've attended, except for a couple of years where I took Megabus.

Welp, I was one of many attendees of this year's Otakon who paid the extra $15 to have the badge mailed early. Since getting a COVID wristband is mandatory for this year's con, they offered a special line at the Marriott for those who already have their badges (like myself) to get said COVID wristband.
Immediately after getting that COVID wristband earlier today, I moseyed on over to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center with the intention of getting my 18+ wristband (it was after 3pm at that point), only to find out that this year, the con officials won't let you do that on Thursday if you've already had your badge mailed to you as I have. It seems that this year the con officials, in all their infinite wisdom, will only permit you to get your 18+ wristband a day early if you're also picking up your badge today.
The upshot: Attendees like me who had their badges mailed in advance can only get the 18+ wristband while the con is actually happening, meaning we'll have to miss part of the con in order to get that particular wristband, as well as hope and pray the line moves quickly.
Hey Otakon: Not cool, guys.

Some will say join Facebook, Twitter, Discord, Reddit, etc. I like the forums the way it is.
Agreed. The Cambridge Analytica debacle made me very reluctant to join Facebook.

Hi everyone. At last year's con I finally decided to try Wild Bill's Soda, and plunked down $35 to get the mug one can use for free refills throughout the weekend. I ended up enjoying their soda a lot, so I was delighted to find out they'll be back for this year's con. I've got one question, though: If I bring back the mug I got last year, can I still use it to get free refills during the entire con? Or will I have to buy a brand new mug? Thanks.

Got mine yesterday.

Well, sadly the board has gone back to being slow again. Hope it gets fixed soon.

I just remembered some more anime titles to add to my double-dipping list:
Wings of Honneamise: The Royal Space Force
Vampire Hunter D -- Bloodlust
Howl's Moving Castle
The Castle of Cagliostro
Lupin III (the Red Jacket series)
Detroit Metal City
FLCL
Memories
Metropolis
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Chobits

Any double-dipping I've done (at least as far as anime is concerned) was between DVDs and Blu-Rays. Here are the anime titles I've bought in both of those formats:
Akira
My Neighbor Totoro
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Spirited Away
Black Lagoon
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
Ninja Scroll (the movie)
Cowboy Bebop
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water

Yep, I've been treating myself to dinner there the day before the con the past five years it took place.

Is there going to be a grid version of the schedule?
Seconded. Also: When will you have a map of where all the rooms will be?

We'll also have lanyards available for pickup if you don't have your own. Though re-using your own lanyards is good for the environment and helps save us money!
Just curious: Did you skip mailing the lanyards for budget reasons?
