  1. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic myself, so last week I reserved some train tickets for Otakon weekend. I'm a bookkeeper for a home construction company, and since housing-related workers are classified as essential, I was fortunate enough to get my first of two scheduled shots a couple of weeks ago with my second shot to come next month.
  2. Well, I went to Anime Boston back in 2013, so perhaps we may have crossed paths then. Or perhaps not.
  3. My brother lives in Oregon as well and alas, he's having the exact same problem. Hope your power comes back soon.
  4. Given he actually knows his stuff when it comes to things like COVID-19, it's certainly understandable. It's always darkest before the dawn. I'm positive the fandom WILL make a comeback; we all just need to be patient.
  5. Oh, and you displayed none at all, huh? Well, I'll admit our national government certainly made a hash of things early on by not doing nearly enough; the same goes for numerous states. But now that we finally have some adults in charge at the federal level, we'll finally start seeing the aggressive moves that should have been taken right from the get-go. And this will be because the guys now in charge are the ones who take DOCTORS seriously. Now can you please, please, PLEASE stop dragging these threads off-topic?
  6. For heaven's sakes, what governments are doing is following the advice of doctors. You know, the people who are supposed to know what's best for our health. That overwhelming evidence will come from doctors. So unless you're one of them, I don't think you're in much of a position to claim that mass gatherings are safe.
  7. Sorry, but any opinion piece published by a Rupert Murdoch-owned source should be taken with several billion grains of salt. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/new-york-post/ Nope, it's up to the person who makes a claim to prove it. It sure ain't my job to do your homework for you. YOU made the claim that Dr. Fauci is unreliable, so the burden of proof is on YOU. And you'll have to use better sources than some opinion piece from the New York Post.
  8. Whose opinion is more reliable than his? Got a reliable source for that?
  9. As for me, it all depends on when I'm able to get vaccinated. If it happens before June, I just might be OK with going. We'll see.
  10. What a shame that such a talented actor should be such a complete failure as a human being.
  11. Oh dear me. First the skywalk, then the fountains, and now this. If the SoundGarden music store goes, I just might never visit Baltimore again.
  12. Am I bummed about this? You bet. Do I hold any grudges for this? Absolutely not; 'cos this was definitely the right call to make. The fact that my membership rolls over to next year certainly does cushion the blow.
  13. Here are a few titles right off the top of my head: Zombieland Saga Planet With Fate/Apocrypha Just Because! Angels of Death
  14. They might not get Otakon back, but maybe...just maybe...the BCC will be able to land some other anime convention. I certainly wouldn't mind having another excuse to visit Charm City again.
  15. Not too shabby for a three-year old con. I'd strongly think about going if only it didn't come right smack-dab in the middle of football season.
  16. Good points, all. But what about my recommendation of a separate entrance line for autograph seekers so we could get to the autograph area without having to deal with the massive mob entering the dealers' room?
  17. Seconded. I was so looking forward to getting my first ever autograph from a Japanese seiyuu and it didn't pan out. Perhaps Otakon could only afford to have Inoue in town for just that one day, but IMO, her schedule was far too tightly compressed. I just wish they hadn't scheduled her autograph session to start so soon after the dealers' room first opened, considering how ridiculously long the lines are just to get into that place on the first day. Maybe Otakon should should have separate entrance lines just for the autograph sessions.
  18. Oh man, I missed out on some neat stuff! Events like this really make me wish I could clone myself. I only got to attend three panels in their entirety, but one of them was a big 'un: The Q&A session by voice-acting legend Kikuko Inoue. I'd had my heart set on this panel, and she made it well worth the wait. Pity I couldn't get her autograph, though. I also had fun at Daryl Surat's Anime's Craziest Deaths panel (that's become a yearly tradition for me) and at the Anime Openings & Endings The Man Doesn't Want You To See panel; this veteran otaku enjoyed seeing the original ope
  19. Otakon's schedule has been available to view for the past couple of weeks. But if you're too lazy to look things up yourself, then there is a Studio Ghibli film (From Up on Poppy Hill) playing at 12:30pm on Friday.
  20. I just got my badge today, yay! I'd been at the Red Cross donating blood platelets, and I got back home just in time to catch the mailman as he was driving past so I could sign for it.
