FANS TAKE BACK CONTROL OF CONVENTIONS

Corporations and power-tripping otaku ousted, irrelevant

The Anime Liberation Front (ALF) has issued a call to anime fans everywhere to create productive programming, with free access to everyone. No more programming dictated by corporate marketing departments. No more pretending file-sharing doesn't exist. No more comped badges for minor-league "guests" and their friends, while the rest of us shell out upwards of $65 for a "corporation membership" with no democracy.

Create better programming based on your devotions, not the urge to save on trip costs. Swap media, crafts, food and ideas. Use public space and let anyone and everyone attend, participate, and orchestrate. Exclude nobody. Include everybody. Meet new friends and create something amazing~

The ALF will have its inaugural meeting at Otakon 2008, location and time To Be Announced. Everyone is encouraged to attend, participate, and initiate. Seditious and subversive literature will be distributed. Further information will be posted at http://drop.io/dorobocon Discuss your ideal anime convention at our site, on the Otakon boards, on anonymous image boards, or on the long car ride to the con.

-----

The Anime Liberation Front was formed in 2008 in order to address the growing consumerist influences and elitist and authoritarian otakus in the anime scene today. We seek to provide resources and ideas for like minded DIYers to implement and hijack their own conventions.

Hi,

I wanted to chime in, since you mentioned "unofficial panel" in your topic title, and address one or two things:

- While everyone is of course welcome to arrange unofficial meet-ups, please be sure to arrange your meeting out of the high-traffic areas. There are large, usually empty lobby areas on either side of where Registration takes place, and also throughout the convention center, which should be adequate for your gathering. If you anticipate a large crowd, please use the Contact Us page to be in touch with us so that we can plan accordingly - we may be able to help you organize your event.

- You mentioned distributing literature. Unfortunately, handing out fliers or similar items is considered solicitation and is not permitted. Feel free, however, to leave your information on the provided tables throughout the 300 level.

I find it ironic, as I and others said on the LJ posts, that your flyer is specifically anti-Otakon, yet you're here and at the con promoting yourselves. Yeeeeaaaaah.

Someones disgruntled. Did you already registered for this "Elitest" convention?

As someone who is pro-free information, I think you could of easily discussed this topic or presented your viewpoints without the tone of angry or elitism. It is fun to throw a large party, but even when you got just 30 people over, that can easily be $300. If there is entry fee, the organizer has to pay that bill all on their own. While something like that would be nice in utopia, it can never exist without having a limited attendance or someone with a large amount of money to burn.
