How much was your trip to Otakon?

Recommended Posts

Since I fell in love with Otakon (My first con) I am definitely attending more in the near future. One thing that might make hold back on some of the longer distance conventions (California from Connecticut) is cost?

Including the price of the ticket, flights, hotels, and any transportation to your hotel, how much was your trip?

Crap...first time I've crunched the numbers...

Transportation: Irrelevant, I'm a local with an MTA pass

Hotel: $100

Food : $80ish?

Otakon merch: $30

JAM merch: $30

Funi booth: $20

Aardvark shirt: $20

HLJ booth: $15

Miscellany: $15

Paying a friend for his help with photography at the JAM concert so he could go get a shirt and CD: $20

So about $330. But simply experiencing Otakon? Priceless.

Hahahahahahahah.

Mines Really funny.

My mother never bothered to give me any money to get anything at otakon, so I was stuck with only 50$ for every single day.

And I used that money to Only get food.

But my ride and Hotel room was free so thats good for me.

but only 50 dollars and on food.

( -.-);; pleh. But I still had an amazing time!

Well, I spent around $300 this weekend. What did I spend my money on? Let's see...

$150 - Given to my friend Pedro for my share of the hotel room & gas, parking & tolls.

$40 - Spent at the Wharf Rat for fish & chips as well as a few pints of ale throughout the weekend.

$17 - Spent on 2 backfin crab cakes at the Lexington Market. 1 from Faidley's & 1 from the Crab Pot.

In the Dealers Room:

$31 - Spent at the Otakon Merchandise Table

$42 - Spent on essential oils from That Pagan Chick booth. Who would've thought I'd find essential oils at Otakon?

$15 - I finally found my black Mokona plushie! :D Forget which booth I found it at though.

$8 - Spent on an amethyst crystal from the Undiscovered Treasures booth.

Hmmm let's see here...my total for Otakon 2008:

$55- Pre-Registration

$90- Hotel near the BWI

$160ish- (not really sure since I'm too tired to go back to a former post to check :P) on Cosplay.

$55- Gas/Cab/Light rail

$50- Food for the weekend

$110- For my Gravitation box set, Final Fantasy mini figures, Sephiroth figure, Otakon 2008 t-shirt.

$25- (estimated) in Artist's Alley for my Phoenix Wright poster, Sephiroth cell phone charm, Devil May Cry stickers, and DMC/Final Fantasy Crisis Core bookmarks.

I'd say estimated costs for the trip was around $550. I checked my wallet last night and came home with $300 of the spending money that I brought with me...so I'm pretty happy :)

$15 to eat a hotel breakfast while pretending I was a big shot on Thursday

$10 Quizno's lunch Thursday

$275 for a Sailor Moon cel and a Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust cel (<-- yay!)

$10 for an Otakon 2008 shirt

$10 for a new staff shirt

$20 for a FFVII Playarts Aeris figure

$40 for one of those squishable penguins

So... about $380. ....Yikes.

Hrmmmm. Def a pricey but fun weekend! This was my first one so I prob spent money where I didnt have to but Ill know better for next year. :)

FOOD - prob like 100$ for the weekend. ( Treated myself at Big Kahuna with friends...worse shrimp ever. :P thought it would be nice since this was my summer vaca...should have had a V-8 instead )

DRINKS inside - 10 or so

TICKET- 65

DEALER ROOM - 24$ on Cyber Goggles (freekin sweet) - 2 Bucks on Raffle tickets - 14$ on wallscroll - 2$ for Blinkie Thing outside of Convention

ARTIST GALLERY - this is where i spent most of my $. about 60$ on Autographed Prints. Well worth it. Disaapointed that pretty much all of the Artists didnt have the originals to their work for sale. I know the Auction was where to be but I was only there for Friday and Sat.

OUTFIT - like 20$ for Otakon

MISC - 30$

TOTAL OF 250$/300$ FOR THE WEEKEND.

COULDNT AFFORD IT BUT WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. :):)

Pre-Reg: $55

MTA Day Passes (4)- $14

Food: $26 (Hard Rock, Chinese x2, fries from Aramark, nachos at 711)

Dealers Room: $90 (Doll outfit, Pinky :st, plushie, parasol, chopsticks, figure, notebooks, etc)

Artist Alley: $25 (stickers, plushie, original painting, hair bow)

Total: $210. I'm local so no hotel, I ate breakfast and dinner at home, and I never eat a really big lunch. I really don't like that much in the dealers room, and I don't ever buy prints, and most original paintings are totally out of my price range. Not to mention I'm super picky about the art I buy. I got pretty much everything I wanted, and I had a GREAT time :)

Hmm not counting Registration because I paid for that well in advance

Hotel- $145

Amtrak- $124

Dealer Room- $106 on mainly imported figures, the Jam Project CD and 1 Japanese FMA manga volume ($25 of which I lost because I lost a Lelouch figure I bought :) )

Food- approximately $25

Taxi- $10 (to and from train station)

So about $410 in total which is $200 less than I budgeted I think. :D

Some figures are approximate:

Light Rail Thursday: $1.60

Thursday dinner at Panera: $8

Food at Tir na nOg on Saturday: $13

Food at Tir na nOg on Sunday: $11 (YUM!)

Useless Eva stuff purchased at Dealers Room: $26

Light Rail Friday: $1.60

In all, it was something between $62-$65.

The benefit of having free hotel/food/admission as a staffer. And before you get jealous, just know that MOST STAFFERS DON'T GET TO ENJOY THE CONVENTION.

I don't know if I should count my air transport as JFK-BWI and BWI-ORD were part of a larger Round the World ticket.

Though I could count the $84.40 that was stolen from me while trying to get a ticket for the light rail back to BWI.

Room: $95

food: about $40

Dealers/Artists: $230

USPS: $26

Otakon: $55

think that's all.

Hmm...I haven't actually figured up my totals yet!

Room: $160 (rounded up a couple of dollars)

Flight: $350 (whew, expensive!)

Food: $43 (plus over $100 in Aramark vouchers!)

Dealers' Room - Doujinshi: $30; Otamerch: $30; Wallscroll: $14; Pins: $8

TOTAL: $633

Not too bad! I overshot my $500 budget, but that was because the plane ticket jumped over $100 more than my budgeted price this summer.

How do some of you spend so much money??

It's been a tradition now to bring a cooler (full of groceries bought at home), a grill, and rice cooker. We splurged this year since we got a far hotel, but hope to prevent that from happening next year.

Hotel: 150

Gas/Parking: 20 (From South Jersey)

Badge: 55

Food: 10 + 25 (eating out)

Dealer Room: 16

Not including the gas I spent driving to the light rail station...maybe add $5 or so. It's basically just down the road.

Hmmmm...lets see.

I travel with 4 people so that gets divided. From VA Beach area to Baltimore for Thursday thru Sunday.

Yeap about $463 a person is a rough estimate but its usually less for three of us since we do a lot of online shopping.

$20 for a FFVII Playarts Aeris figure

Ahh, so she was new ...

I think between the hotel, parking, meals (aka breakfasts,) and dealers room (a first) ... the net came out to just shy of $600.

Flights ( Dublin -> London -> Baltimore and back ofc ): $1350

Pre-reg: $55

Hotel ( 4 nights) : $400

Food +Drink: $150

Dealers Room: $400 ( bag wallscroll dvds which are stupidly expensive in Ireland)

Prereg: $55

AA table: $70

Parking (which was split four ways) $12

Dealer's room: $100

Foods: $15, plus $20 snacks for AA

So, about $272, but I did make that back at the table - though being at an AA table 95% of the time (aside from smoke breaks and my one trip to the Dealer's Room) is a decidedly different experience than most congoers. ^^ I haven't been to a con for the con in forever!

... It sure is great to live in Baltimore, not to mention a ~10-15 minute drive from downtown. Free rooming!

My husband and I definitely spent well over $1000 totaling up our cosplays, registration, gas, food, hotel, etc. It would have been a lot less, but we treated ourselves to some nice restaurants and his Silent Bob cosplay was about $600 by itself. But now that we have everything for that cosplay, next year should only cost about $500......hopefully

Flight from Long Island to Baltimore = Free (My dad had a ton of miles racked up so he let me have one)

Hotel for two nights $55

Taxi Round Trip $60

Sailor Moon Glass $22

Food $50-70 (I'll know when I get my bill back)

Sucks I only made 15 bucks in the ally, but I'm glad I sold ONE thing to nothing.

My Share of Van Rental/Gas/Tolls - $100 (paid that back in March)

Food Thurs-Mon - $20 (mostly I lived on staff vouchers and my Section Cheif was very nice and helped me out a bit foodwise)

$120 in total. I hope I never come to Otakon with $20 in my pocket ever again. :D

Transportation: $50

Hotel: $250

Food : $60

Merchandise: ~$450

Artist Alley: $130

Total: $940

A bit for my first con, but it was a load of fun, got lots of stuff I've always wanted, and had an experience unlike anything I ever imagined.

Link to post

I believe I spent about $720

Registration $55

Hotel paid 2/3 of cost of three nights @ $211 per night.

Gas fillups x2 $40

Parking $25

Food $?? A lot - drinks and food at Pizzaria Uno and Edo Japan. ($8 beers @_@)

Dealers Room $40 on Figures $15 on a gift and $21 at Otakon Table (The least I've ever spent at the dealer's room)

Artist Alley $35

Cosplay $0 (Didn't do anything this year (-_-,)

I can only guess what I paid as I paid for the entire hotel charge through expedia and then just spent the cash my friend gave me to pay for his share of the room ($211) plus the registration and gas were extra.

I miss the days when I could get by on only a few hundred at Otakon, mostly spent in the dealer's room, but we've gotten used to having nice hotels and partying well at the Baltimore restaurants.

Transportation = 30(greyhound round trip)

Hotel = 145 for the weekend split 3 ways.(Thursday---Sunday)

Dealers Room = 195?

Artist Ally = 20

Cab = 30

Food / Drink = 50 X_x

________________________

Total = 470... more then that just can't remember on what @_@ I'm going to try and save at least double that for next year though so I can have more to spend on the Artist Ally and Dealers room... alot of things I wanted this year but ran out of money @_@. Only good thing is I got the Day's Inn room for 120 a night and got 3 or 4 people for it already, but even with two people its only $180 each...so I'm happy. My plan is 50 a month saved (including this August)... figure thats 12 months including July and I'll have $600+ next year to spend, but my real goal is 1500 xD

omiage about $50 (spent in dealers' room)

public transportation $10.20
