SoraVII 0
I love anime, we all do I would imagine however this past year I realized while sitting in the Iron Editor panel that I barely knew any of the animes used in the AMVs and it is for that reason I wish to compile a list of anime that you must absolutely see, now this is obviously each individual person's opinion but it would be nice to have a reference for people just getting into anime to know what to check out OR for people who may already be into it but want to find something new that they may never have heard of. Some that make my list that we've all probably heard of: Trigun Cowboy Bebop Naruto Bleach Hikaru no Go Full Metal Alchemist Death Note Keroro Gunso And that's about where I fall off so everyone add some titles and let's make this an awesome list! ota_retired 6
It's pitiful that Samurai Champloo has only been mentioned by one other person here. It's an intense, action-filled anime with an incredible story, but it still has its funny moments. Edited August 31, 2008 by Otaku Ru

ithilienne 2
I'll probably list some repeats, so bear with me. This isn't necessarily a list of My Favorite Anime, although many of my favorites are on this list. Instead, it's a list of anime that I feel would make a nice survey for an Art History course. - Sailor Moon - Tenchi Muyo! and Tenchi Universe (and the first movie, Tenchi Muyo in Love!) - Dragonball - Ranma 1/2 - Urusei Yatsura - Ah! My Goddess - Evangelion, End of Evangelion, etc - Akira - Astro Boy - Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - Cardcaptor Sakura - Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, etc - Macross and Macross Plus - Cowboy Bebop - Trigun - Blue Submarine no. 6 - Lupin the 3rd - Any Miyazaki movie/movies, but particularly Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, or Castle in the Sky - Windaria - Satoshi Kon's films - Mononoke (NOT the Miyazaki movie) - Fushigi Yuugi ...I might have left some off my list. Anyway, each of those I've listed is an iconic example of its genre; Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura are quintessential magical girl shows; Dragonball is the standard for shonen battle shows; Evangelion and Akira are the adolescent-boy-coming-of-age masterpieces by which most anime is judged; Ah! My Goddess and Tenchi and Urusei Yatsura are variations on the harem genre; Blue Sub was a forerunner in combining CG and 2D animation... the list goes on. Additionally, each of the shows or films listed have compelling stories underneath their visual aspects, stories which all but force the viewer to invest emotionally in the characters. The investment might be humorous (Lupin, Tenchi), dramatic (Eva, Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Miyazaki), or simply a side-effect of the sweeping, mind-numbing art (Vampire Hunter D, Mononoke). If you come across any of these series or films at a con, pick up a DVD or two. It'll be money well-spent.
